Hyman is that player that flourished with specific individuals. I respect the hell out of his motor and drive, but I don't think he can just fit in with many other players.
Sometimes chemistry is just a one off.

Handing out long term deals to this type of player - the hard forechecking, power forward, puck retrieval type of player - is never a good idea. But is everyone ignoring that he has had multiple knee injuries, including a minor one this year?

I'd rather take a run at Gabriel.

Yeah. If things don't work out with Johnny, move him, launch an all in on Landeskog, find the right pieces to fill out holes with J9hnnys return. Or Tkachuk, however they deal with it.

What are we doing? Are we going all in? Are we rebuilding/retooling?
I think we’re 50/50 in each camp which is the worst.

I watch Toronto a fair bit. Suggesting Hyman is just a beneficiary of playing with Matthews is not at all accurate. He gets moved up and down the lineup and is equally effective everywhere. His is so effective when on the 3rd line, they keep moving him up to play with Matthews.
The closest comparison on the Flames is Mangiapane - he is the same great player, no matter who you throw him out there with

I'm not saying he's a beneficiary. I'm saying that his best fit is likely the Leafs. Not any other team.

Honestly really like the player but you know it's going to be a massive over payment.

What a bizarre take. Why would you single out Hyman as someone who only fits on one team?

Oh come on, who here doesn't wanna see a flaming Hyman?
Personally I'd rather see a whale Hyman or greasy Hyman.

Agreed. I do not want the Flames to sign Hyman to any contract that has a 7 or an 8 in it. Call it a superstition.

What's bizarre about it? We know full well it happens. Brouwer capitalized on his chemistry with the Blues into a deal that eventually got bought out because he was a terrible fit in CGY.
It's not a Flames only thing. Some players just fit in on some tes and don't on others.
I like Hyman, but to pay him the term he is seeking reeks of a boat anchor.

Agreed. I would love to see the Flames sign Hyman to a reasonable deal (factoring in that all UFA deals are way too much), but I would really like to not see a 7 or (worse!) 8 year deal.
No problem at all with 6 years

The numbers suggest Hyman contributed to his lines success more so than Landeskog did. Seems like Hyman played well with whoever he played with
I’d stay away but my guess is he would come in way cheaper than landeskog and is more likely to have success with us than Neal or brouwer

Being so very superstitious, I also don't want to see a 7 or an 8 in the salary.
Which means if Hyman and his agent lost their marbles and offered to sign for league minimum (now $750,000), I would be going, ‘Please take $900,000 and make the bad juju go away.’
Of course, 7 or 8 million would make the juju 10 times as bad.

well, $7 or $8M is a fireable offense - Hyman is not worth that.

Would you rather have Schwartz + Granlund for 7 mill, or Hyman for 7 mill?
