Darryl isn't fooled by flashy guys like McDavid who only play half the game, he knows they're a collection of scrubs.
He calls Montreal a top team because they too have the goalie and a group of guys that have a high floor but are not elite, so they work hard for their wins. Better recipe than two entitled guys and a bench of dead weight.

He knows win or lose Darryl will maximize the roster. They’ll make changes if they win & huge changes if they don’t find success.

Price and Weber alone can steal a playoff series, like how they knocked out Pittsburgh. McDavid and Draisaitl are easy for a coach like Darryl Sutter to contain.

Darryl sorta called out the Flames lifers who’ve been here for 5 years or so: which would be Backlund, Gio, Monahan and Gaudreau.
Treliving again says “the coaching position isn’t going to change” which tells me what many have suspected - the players have undermined coaches.

The second part of that line was interesting though -- that Darryl has been that guy growing up in an organization (in Chicago) and those guys need someone who's on there side, who will be there and provide stability, and he'll be that for them.
You can already see him getting a read on players and seeing what they need IMO. He talked about the one-on-one relationships being the most important part of the head coaches job and that's why guys go through the wall for him.
