Monahan gives the haters a massive middle finger while having a career year (or more accurately, on pace for a career year pro rated to this current seasons structure)
Sam Bennett performs the same as he did in the playoffs at center paired with Dube. Newcomer Jakob Pelletier replaces Lucic on the line and they become the 0luckiest 3rd line the team has seen in ages.
David Rittich play so poorly in his stint as #2 they put him on waivers. They ride Markstrom like a rented mule as a result.
Nikita Nesterov is a revelation and quickly becomes a fan favorite.

Johnny puts up 30g, 40a.
Bennett solidifies himself as 2nd line center.
Pelletier makes the team and puts up 20g playing on a line with Backlund and Dube.
Markstrom is runner up for Vezina.

Don’t forget how they finished ahead of Chicago too.

It seems like a lot of people have been low on Johnny.
I agree. Wouldn't be surprised to see him put up 70 points or end up top 5 in scoring.

I non boldly predict scoring declines over the course of the year as teams have played each other repeatedly and game plans put playoff like focus on shutting down team’s top players and lines. With 3-4 games in a row vs one team both sides will have lots of opportunity to make adjustments that provide visible benefit. Coaching and team scouting will be more efficient with only 6 teams to key on for the whole season.
I can’t see Gaudreau hitting his highest scoring rate ever in the NHL this season. Gaudreau gets contained in the playoffs when teams key on him more than in one off games. We’ve seen he’s unable to adapt and change his game in a series.
Flames won’t have any weak opponents other than the Oilers to feast on. Even the Sens have Murray in net. Price, Hellebuck, Andersen, and Holtby/Demko won’t be easy.
Gaudreau’s ice time might even take a hit if Tkachuk - Lindholm - X becomes a successful line as some are hoping.
Or all of this could be moot were he traded to a team with #1 centers.

Man, I really overlooked how fun the 18-19 regular season was. What a frickin force our top six was.
I'd love to see us boast five 70+ scorers again (prorated).

Gaudreau has a strong NHL season, but unfortunately he struggles in the playoffs and is a none factor.

Monahan's struggles increase with him putting up a paltry 15g and 21a in 56 games this season despite continued 1st PP minutes. Hi value plummets further but the Flames improve as his eventual decreased minutes lead to chances for other forwards to step up and perform.

Just no on so many levels. Two high IQ wingers playing between a low IQ center with a beer league shot and no track record of anything close to NHL offensive production would spell disaster for arguably the Flames top two wingers this year.
Bennett in no way shape or form should be seeing any time outside of the bottom 6. Maybe PP2 time but EV strength on a should be playoff team....no way.
