I'm not too worried. He'll definitely get in a rhythm as time goes on. He's also been pretty solid defensively on the PK and some big blocks. While his offence seems to have dried up, I'm fine with that as it's coming from other multiple areas. Can't always relay on a 36 year old Dman to carry the load from the backend.
His gaff last game was scary though, but no harm no foul. I can't help but feel the team is using him as a rallying point to all pull the same direction.

Didn't hear the Lucic quote that they were referring too, but the 960 afternoon guys basically suggested he pretty much spelled it out that he's taking faceoffs because Bennett is hurt.
I wondered that in the last game story, seems odd to have a guy that rarely takes faceoffs all of a sudden take all of them ... in the playoffs.

From the interview the other day, Lucic said that Dube could be taking some faceoffs too. The implication being that Bennett can't take them. This also explains why, in game 4 against the Jets, Lindholm took the opening faceoff for Bennett.

I think Johnny is primed for a big playoff performance. Lots of JG's game is finding those soft spots on the ice and exposing a a dman that is just off in his positioningor flat footed. If the stars give him a breath, like Heiskenen did in the second period game 1, he will start capitalizing... then lookout.

This is a pretty prime reason why you see players go hard in the first couple periods and then taper off or stop hitting. Hitting someone doesn't just hurt them, it wears and tears on you as well.

Yes, and really, the entire game wasn't much different from that 3rd period. The 2 goals they scored in the second were both on somewhat (un)fortunate bounces. You earn those with zone time, traffic and getting pucks to the net, so Dallas is full marks for that, especially in the 2nd period, but I'm with you - if that's their strategy, I like the Flames chances a lot tonight and going forward.
Dallas isn't scoring, and the Flames are playing the best team defense I've seen in quite some time. If they can stay committed to that, they could easily find themselves up 2-0 in this series after the game tonight.
GFG!

I love playoff game days!
I don't love flames game 2s, however.
My prediction is that Dallas comes out real strong (like game 1's second period). If the flames can weather the storm and not allow Dallas to take back and own momentum, it could be any body's game.
If the top 2 lines can start clicking offensively, it'll be huge. The stars d isn't physical at all, gaudreau and monahan should be able to play to their strengths in this series.
Go flames go!

Also explains why Sam is hitting so much. He's probably got a bad hand / wrist / finger. But he's committed to making a difference.

Makes sense now why we haven't seen the patented "toe drag and give it up at the blue line" move yet too.
Purported injury prevents him from doing those, that worked once against the Pens 4 years ago and he's tried it in every game since. And, as importantly, the option of that is out of his head now too, so he can do less thinking and more doing/focusing on more fundamentals.
