Best game they have played for months. The defence really stepped up and all players contributed, even Stone played solid in his own end. I never really noticed before tonight but Stone is very efficient at stapling a guy to the boards and helping break up a cycle. Hopefully he can step up and continue. Brodie was great tonight as well and it was great to see the D move the puck to the forwards quickly instead of side to side, totally made a difference in getting the offence moving.

Lucic breaking his face on that hit might have been the greatest thing I've ever seen. If he connected on that he would have Gifford that poor ####er! I was up near the top and that collision was so loud it was amazing.

Great game, lots of fun and loved the compete. Lindholm being physically with Petersen all night was great, loved seeing that and the kid looked frustrated. Fluky goals and not real dangerous for the canucks.

And Roussel dropping like a bag of hammers once Lucic got mad was also awesome..

Got up early and it was worth it.

Great game by Hanifin, liked Andersson to. Tkachuk set the tone. When Gio is back I want to see Gio - Hamonic and Brodie - Hanifin. Those pairings will complement each other much better.

Again, Tkachuk is a beast and the true heart of this team. Still sooooooo thin on the right side though, BT needs to find right winger.

Happy birthday N-E-B low key one of my favourite posters. Also probably cause I can tell we’re similar in age.

Hard to believe we’re just 3 points out of first place. This team needs to find something to get behind and if that’s the injury of their captain I’m all for it.

Go flames go. Don’t do anything over the top at the deadline and Push for top 2 in the pacific.

Here are my thoughts after getting home from the game:

Top line reunited looked good at times. A couple of times, they would get hemmed in our zone after the previous line changed off. Sometimes Johnny would curl away from the puck carrier when they had it in our zone along the boards... not sure why. I watched him after plays without the puck, never complained to the refs. Still looking for his favorite target Monahan, and very few of those no-chance shots at the side of the net.

Second line. Tkachuk's fight right after the opening Canucks goal really motivated the Flames for the first 10 minutes. Pretty much took over the game at that point, and was up 2-1. Mangiapane has his usual one near-miss/dangerous chance of the game, but what was noticable was a carry-out he did from the D zone as well as the penalty he drew against Petterson. Good strength and confidence on the puck there.

Third line. By far the best of the game. Lucic with his hits and tip-in, lots of Luu chants from the crowd every time he touched the puck. Do nucks fan do that? Or was I hearing Flames fans? Dube his 3 points say otherwise, but from my view not all that noticeable. But Derek Ryan -- I really see what people mean when they say he "does all the little things right".

Fourth line. Bennett was intense. He was winning puck battles on the boards and finishing his checks. Points still aren't there. Jankowski was good on the PK, and sent that pass over to Gaudreau on a 2-on-1, but it was in Jonny's skates so Markstrom had more time to make the save.

D-pairs. Having Hamonic leave put minutes onto the other D-men. Kylington and Brodie showing some good jump on the rush or leading it. Stone acquitted himself well, blasted some shots on net and pinned the Vancouver players to the boards when needed. Andersson his usual steady self.

As for the Canucks, they really didn't look like the team at the top of the division. They were hardly dangerous at all, shots from the perimeter, and the few chances in the slot, Rittich cleaned up easily. Being at the game, I can see the players' faces and Petterson looked very frustrated (Johnny-like), and was pissed off anytime someone played him physically (notably Backlund, Stone) and would look to the ref all the time for a penalty, especially after he was called for one.

Rittich was bored in the 2nd period. He was trying to stay focused, and I was worried he'd let in a soft one.

Anyway, great win for the Flames... and hopefully it will be sooner than another 17 years before I get to attend a game because they haven't lost in front me yet in the 4-5 that I've attended.

Sorry for the super long post.

Sounds like Mangiapane knocked Boeser out "for a little while" according to their coach. That guy sure can't stay healthy

Just got back!! Be proud of the Flames fans in Vancouver!! We were there and we were loud and it was awesome to be a part of! Soooo pumped, won’t be able to crash for a bit!

Johnny - Wasn’t floating nearly as much and got robbed on that Jankowski play; looked engaged and starting showing the vision and passing we know so well. Please please please keep Lindholm with him and Mony.

Tkachuk - Brilliant. Captain material and it’s showing in spades. Have never had a better time as a Flames fan at a game than tonight with my Tkachuk jersey while my bros rocked Monahan and Gaudreau jerseys. From the response with the fight to the goal to the constant hounding of every single puck. What a joy to where his jersey in a barn that literally passed on him. Mint!

Rittich - Can’t bs understated tonight, made key saves when need, pushed the pucks to the corners, cleaned up the puck when needed and gave Pettersen a good shot to boot after he overstayed his welcome in Ritter’s crease. The butthurt cry from the fans was hilarious!

Andersson - We have a top 2 in Andy and he will continue to grow into that role and is an absolute joy to watch. He plays a beautiful game with so much vision and patience. The shot where he creeped into the Center slot was a gorgeous sequence as was his spinarama in his own zone to shake the defender. He plays a rugged game and reminds me so much of Valimaki only as a righty that it’s crazy. Valimaki - Andersson is the future 1-2 of this club and that’s very exciting.

Dube - Seems faster to me live, just a non stop motor and a desire for the puck that is noticeable. Plays a smart game, is very good on zone entries and on the rush and is starting to show hands that support his wheels. What an absolute clinic he displayed on the 3-2 goal! Sky is the limit for Dube IMO.

Lucic - Bring this type of game against the Oilers and we might have a fan favourite on our hands. If Lucic can really consistently play like this - and I’m not saying that he hasn’t for stretches - but really bring that sort of tone into pivotal games like tonight then look out. Nuclear deterrents are harder and harder to come by and his presence could pay so much dividends for this club in the playoffs. Stunning showing tonight from the big man and here’s to him keeping the momentum up.

Everyone put in a full 60 tonight and it’s time to carry that through California!

Petterson was invisible. The only way I knew he was on the ice was by looking for his number. When he had the puck on the rush, Flames players were racing past him, and he always would pass it to another player. I didn't see him take any shots, and looking up the game stats confirms it.

I can't believe I'm about to say this, however...

From this ATL, it is quite clear that the Canucks fan base is actually sort of reasonable in their takes here, especially when compared to the fan base of the (c)Oil.

Full disclosure: I am impressed by the Canucks' current "rebuild" attempt, especially as compared to that of the (c)Oilers'. Vancouver has a number of players that I respect, as opposed to their early-to-mid 2000s team that housed a number of dinks.

Nevertheless: V=NG. And may the 50 year drought continue, ad infinitum.
