I was praying that clown would flip his bat after the penalty shot. I would have loved to see.... oh wait. Tkachuk and Talbot had already been tossed out. I guess nothing would have happened.

I've been thinking of it as a sweet sweet bonus to this team for a while now. Hanging out hopes on it seems like a disappointing path this season

Pepper is too hard nosed, some of the players will whine to Treliving, saying he's mean to me!

There are culprits that aren't mentally tough enough but it's not the fans.

The Flames top players not named Tkchuck are too emotionally soft for playoff style hockey, and now have a significant track record proving it.

Haven’t read a single post in this thread. But the Flames need some changes. I didn’t hear or see Johnny hardly at all during this game. I’m over him to be honest. He’s small, he’s easy to knock off his game, and he’s just not doing anything. He may have been injured for all I know, seriously did he get hurt?
Stupid mcdavid and stupid Draisaitl are constantly driving the play. We don’t have that. We have depth, but we don’t have top end talent (at any position). Gio has clearly lost a step. Or maybe it’s mental, either way he’s on the 15th hole right now forget the back 9.
Johnny, Kylington, and Hamonic. Those are the pieces to use for a trade or two to shake this team up and be relevant. We should be better but we aren’t, and the answer is not in the room, IMO.
Time for Treliving to shake this core up. It’s not a winning core. And winning is the whole point.

Now a lot of those posters have come around to seeing it's true.
What would it take for you to belueve we aren't good enough to be a real top team?
Is there any results that would sway you?

What’s a real top team? St. Louis, who 12 months ago was the worse team in the league? Vegas, who since going to the cup final lost in round one and still where we do now? Ramps who also lost first round? Are the Canucks and Oilers real top teams now?
I think a lot of people haven’t wrapped their heads around the league is different now. It’s not about catching lighting in a bottle from 8th place. In 04 when the Flames finished in 6th, there were huge differences in them and the better teams. That was a true miracle run. In today’s NHL, legit good teams miss the playoffs.
This team needs some changes, I don’t disagree. But we are in the second year in my opinion of this groups window. And we tare it apart because the won the West last year, but lost first round, and currently sit in a playoff spot? That’s a stupidly short leash sparked by emotion. Last year and this year has given us indications of what we should be trying to change (and the GM clearly saw the same thing given the trade he tried to pull off) but to suggest we are in burn it territory is just emotional garbage.

He also mentioned conditioning and fitness was the flames mantra for success back then. We all know who he most likely is referring to on this roster or what may be lacking.

The glaring problem under Ward is attention to defence.
It's an obvious issue. I think you'd see more offence as a result of greater commitment in your own zone too.
If you think you're in some kind of window you're not putting your best foot forward by just running our the season with an interim.
Guys need a defined system that emphasizes speed and back checking and a guy like Gallant offers exactly that blueprint.

No one on the Oilers wants to fight Lucic, plain and simple. They've probably told him as much.
Him randomly swinging at guys isn't the answer either.
Full props to Talbot. For his calming the disaster that was Rittich, taking on Gagner, and taking on Smith.
That POS Gagner should get 2 games for spearing, which caused that whole fracas. Rittich should be embarrassed about his whole game but giving up a clean shot to Gagner for the 7th was the worst of it.

The Flames D core had a bad game - Kylington and Hanifin had especially bad games
We were pinned in our own zone too much with little defensive pressure
I thought once the puck was in our possession the forwards generally did a good job of forechecking and creating offence - we scored 3 goals and had a ton of narrowly missed opportunities
This forum blows up and acts like the sky is falling after every bad game - kind of embarrassing - we outplayed St Louis on Tuesday and then beat this same team the next night

In agree, the honeymoon with Ward was over a long time ago in a number of aspects, as far as being a head coach. But would the owners pay for a new coach this season?

It is interesting how Peplinski praised Tkachuk and Monahan but never mentions Gaudreau one time. I also get the feeling that he sees Tkachuk as the future of this team.

I think lucic is going to become a fan/media target in cgy now.
He wasn't brought here to be a scorer. It was to be a presence, a setter of tone, a deterrent.
His inability or unwillingness to do so was on full display, he's gonna start seeing and hearing more negativity.

It’s just one game and Flames had been good in the two previous.
But the standings don’t lie and the Flames remain in a very precarious spot. A little losing streak and we’ve got big problems. And if I’m honest, I’d say the Flames record flatters them. The lack of change on this club since the start of last season is a problem.

I will say one thing though,
I'd much prefer consistency (even with mixed results) over these big wins / bigger losses from one game to the next.
It's too much for a grown man's heart. I can't get too high on these guys at any time. I'm afraid to because you just don't know what they're going to come out like the next night.
I have to remain cautiously sort of optimistic from a distance to maintain a healthy relationship with this group.
The erratic play just screams of a team that lacks a system and someone to drive commitment to it.
