Thing for me about the Flames right now is it starts with Treliving. I believe in him, I think hes a damned good GM.
This is not like him to leave so little wiggle room for himself to work his roster. Perhaps the players they're targeting are players opposing GMs dont want to move. Perhaps he has a long game already snapped out and this...whatever it is so far is part of the plan.
Honestly, I dont like that hes hanging his hat on this roster this year the way it is constructed and costed. Its leaves zero room for error.
I dont know...player accountability is lacking IMO.

I would also seriously consider sitting Gaudreau for a game. He has been dog poop all season.
Look how much better Carolina is after Peter's departure.

team can't score...lets sit the guy who sets up every goal

The team did this mediocre play routine to begin last season as well. Team is in a slump, and has been from the start. Slumping to a .500 record for the first month is not necessarily a sign of imminent doom. They will have both cold and hot streaks this season, just like every season. I for one look forward to them breaking the slump, hopefully during this road trip. But if you'd rather worry about the eventual toxicity of the room, just go right ahead.

I dont really see Couturier as game breaking in the slightest. He's a lot closer to Monahan than he is to an actual center who can take over a game.
Edit: Couturier actually has a ways to go before he is even on Monahans point production.

I think if you’re looking to blame Treliving or Peters you’re stretching. This is 100% on the guys playing the games.
I can’t fault Treliving for not messing with his team too much after they won 50 games last year. Fluke or not, I think most people would have been pissed if he blew up the core after a poor playoff performance.

Well I didn’t have a great feeling about this game, but they only come around once a year and I wanted to see the new line combos, plus tickets were cheap so I went anyway. A lot fewer flames jerseys in the crowd this year, for whatever reason.
They played a really good two periods, but that third was unacceptable if you’re a team looking to win. I’m not sure what the reason is, but this team has not been able to handle sustained pushes from the opposing team since the playoffs. The canes turned it up another gear with some help from the refs and the flames completely wilted. Not an encouraging sign. Reminded me a little too much of the gulutzan years.
the officiating was once again a disgrace, but what else is new. There were 3-4 trips the refs ignored before calling the Gio penalty in the third.
Some performances:
Rittich: can’t ask for much more. Unlucky to have the first lacrosse goal in the nhl scored against him.
Andersson: was at fault on the tying goal, 2 chances to move the puck with all the time in the world and botched it.
Kylington: fluid, fast, and smart. Needs more ice time
Mangiapane: seemed at times the only forward with the motor working. Hustled all over the ice and tried to make things happen. Drew a penalty late. Needs more ice time.
Tkachuk: notably bad this game. Bobbled passes, struggled to make an impact. Horrible penalty in the third.
Hanifin/Hamonic: Hanifin should have scored in the first (him or backlund should have on the same play) and they were ok, but this is not a pairing that you want on the ice when the momentum is swinging against you.
Backlund was pretty good, again unlucky not to have scored.
Not sure how much ice time Quine got, but the pace and strength of the hurricanes seemed too much for him. Noticed him falling down by himself also
Nothing too positive to take away from this game. Hope they can get something going soon. Think they had the 5th lowest pdo in the league coming into this game and it can’t have gotten higher.

23-18-4 RS, 1-4 playoffs, so 24-22-4 overall.
The RS record puts us at 16th in the NHL in point%, which is barely-scraping-into-the-playoffs territory.

Trading players that are in a slump...what could go wrong?
fans are too reactionary
Team needs another top six winger...this game could have been put away in the first with a little finish/luck. Everyone knows it. Making bad trades now because the lackluster play would backfire big time. Hate watching Neal put up points? You are gonna really hate with JG scores 120+ for another team where he isn't the main driver.

he has 6 points and his terrible team just lost 7-1...people just get fixated on certain guys. Good player but he is slumping badly himself right now.

This doesn't make sense, we need another winger but if Johnny goes to another team he gets 120? If Johnny ever put up those kinds of numbers it would be because he's playing with a top center.

I can't believe our now highest paid player took a bonehead penalty in the 3rd with a tie game and all the momentum in the Canes favor.

No shots for most of the third is a great way to lose a hockey game.
Hitting the goalie in the head with your stick to get the puck in should not be allowed. If it's not technically against the rules, it should be. Rittich probably should have blown up to at least make a point of it.
Reffing is bad. Just all around makes it hard to be engaged.
Team has gone cold. A little bit of offence and I think they'll bounce back. I hope.

This is a pretty good team, with key forwards playing poorly. The coach is trying to mix things up, get them moving. That's what you do. Another poster said put the top 2 lines together again and let them figure it out. I agree. The answer is in the room.
This might sound odd but I think they miss Hathaway. He was inspiring. Lucic is an attitude shift and a downgrade on that energy line and he's pulling the team down.
Move Bennett to play with Mangia and Ryan in that Hathaway spot and see what happens. Leaves a 4th line of Lucic-Quine-Rieder, which is scary, but so be it.
