He saved this team from surrendering a top 10 pick last year but has been so bad this year.

Where are they now? Goalies post-Kipper edition

Elliott - middling stats in Philly
Hiller - Swiss league
Chad Johnson - .927 for the Blues somehow in 6GP
Ortio - SEL/KHL
Ramo - KHL
Berra - Swiss league
Joey MacDonald - DEL
Leland Irving - Austria Hockey League
Henrik Karlsson - KHL

Get this team a MF goalie already! Philly west.

There are quite a few immature jerks here. Jiri is not one of them.
I've never said he was an immature jerk...

He does back up his opinions well, but that doesn't make a good opinion. If I could go back through his post history further than 100 posts I'd be glad to point out his poor player assessments.

Since you can't, why keep bringing it up?

I may not always agree with his player assessments but I have yet to meet anyone who is always right.

Let it go already.

Good opinion according to you?

None of us are 100% accurate in our views and i would think it automatic that views would be dissenting in many cases. It is how you defend and back up your view that matters.

And sometimes we just have to let things rest.

If he's costing us games, who's going to want to acquire him?

Maybe waive him and send him to Stockton? He's playing just as good if not better than the goalies down there.

To be fair, Chad Johnson wanted starters money and the Flames weren't willing to give him that.

Well he didn't deserve it, but his .910 with the Flames is sparkling compared to Smith.

Surprised he played 36 games for us in 16-17 though, I must admit.

I'm sorry but it's really not about how you defend and back up your views. Jiri was a huge defender of Gulutzan and Gully straight up sucked as a head coach. Most of this board could see it, but he was a backer. Jiri is not a strong mind for hockey and would be better if he posted less about it. Sort of how I dont generally post my opinion all too often about the game. A little silence would go a long ways.

You know what? Yes and no.

It is obvious that the goalie should stop that shot and failed.

Teachers have to teach the good students and the struggling students. This student apparently has an issue with his mental game. How are the students struggling and what do they need?

Sigalet has a class of 2, and the student who needs the most attention is flunking.

We can’t keep blaming the goalies.

Can Jordan Sigalet consistently develop mentally strong goalies?
No. You really can’t say he does, you can only argue that he could.

Hiller, Elliott, Smith.

Goalie mojo poison.

The team is right to try and get him out of this slump. Best case scenario, he starts playing better, Rittich continues to play well and we roll with 2 good goalies through the season.

Having said that, there's a line they have to draw and this may be that point.
Giving up on him too soon is a bad move, waiting too long is also a bad move.
Nope. Not any longer. That train has sailed

Send him to Stockton to fix his noggin.

I’m less concerned about Sigalet’s work at the NHL and more concerned with how Gillies and Parsons were cant miss prospecta and have looked like #### since he got hold of them.
Gillies should be pushing for an NHL job now, and he looks nowhere near ready.

Um you clone BT, get cloned BT to become the GM of another team and trade Smith to cloned BT. Simple.

BT tells cloned BT "Mike Smith is the best athlete I have ever been around. He can slam dunk a basketball. He has the best body". And cloned BT would buy it, because those are all things real BT has said.

Pretty simple actually.

One of the biggest things I think I have a hard time with is understanding what Good Mike Smith is even supposed to look like.

Tonight he said “I felt like I was coming back. Felt like I had strung a nice week together of practice and play and obviously it’s tough to swallow right now.” and there was more positive vibes coming from the SJ game than I thought were earned.

He plays most of the game from his face, is frequently too slow, tracks poorly, lets out big rebounds and overall looks to always be fighting it. He had some great saves in the 2nd, but there were a few that were more than they needed to be as well.

Oh come on, so Jiri has a different opinion than yours? Nothing wrong with that. He may look at some things a little differently than some of us do but the differing points of view and insight is what makes the forum unique and creates balance . As far as GG goes, Jiri has made no secret that the players need to be held accountable for their play. If I recall he is big on constancy and advocates long term management and coaching. It is somewhat disrespectful to question Jiri's hockey mind when your misrepresenting his initial intentions, or his perspective,

Good saves. Meh

Sometimes I play golf. I make some good shots, and I talk about them after the game. But I typically shoot in the 90s. Have done better but that’s kind of where I am right now.

Highlighting a good save or two that Smith makes is beer league stuff

Outstanding saves made Kipper a goaltending genius because they became routine, on top of simply stopping what he was supposed to

Trade Smith for Kris Russell. He probably makes more saves anyway.

No, you can't expect Smith to take whatever happens "like a boss" (assuming that phrase is being used figuratively). If relegated to the bench, he might sulk, he might seethe, he might retire, he might demand a trade. Who knows.

It really doesn't matter how Smith takes it, though. Management has to do the right thing for the organization, which is sitting him or replacing him. If that hurts Smith's feelings, too bad. The offseason moves signal that this is not a "tank" year. They expect to make the playoffs, and that'll be extremely difficult to accomplish with a goalie continually letting in putrid goals.
