Come on, are you really going to apply that to the situation laid out in the OP?

I hope you don't really think that!
We're having a great weekend. His disrespect towards us was all that was upsetting, but it's specially tied to him. He's not a very well liked guy, so he eventually finds his way to the next cottage, then the next and the next until he's worn out his welcome everywhere.
How to treat him when he's around was more of the question, and I have a great idea of how best to handle him if the opportunity arises.
Since his MAGA hat and ####ty jabs made an appearance on Friday he's kept his distance.

It's interesting with the prevailing MAGA attitude of America first which has, at least in some instances, spilled over into a FU to every other nation that he chooses to vacation north of the border.

The passionate supporters have really adopted his 'attack everyone' personality (or in this case, he found his true 'leader') which really closes the doors for any political conversation.
It's an odd world when the American President is influencing millions of Americans to become disrespectful brash #######s in the name of their nation.

Yeah, that was kind of what generated the original comment I made. Political discourse is dead in this country. We have two accepted polar opposite viewpoints. It's a product of our stupid two party system. It's amazing how far we've regressed politically in the last 20 years.
Someone like myself who doesn't see things in black and white are effectively left out of the process. I chose not to vote for the President for the first time in my life. I didn't make that choice lightly either. I couldn't stomach voting against someone rather than for someone.

Geez. I also am spending my weekend out at our family cottage. I also dislike our neighbors a lot. But when I see them I act cordial and so do they and we dont annoy each other.
I imagine they have enjoyed their weekend just as much as we have. Shocker.

Personally I think Political discourse is dead overall with sides split into two distinctive angry camps. The few people that are stuck in the middle just don't give a crap about getting involved because of the basically shouting and uncivil manner of the debate.
Even in a multiple party electoral system like Canada's I find myself lost in the middle of not having anyone that I'm comfortable voting for.
It used to be that you could lodge a protest vote for the party least likely to win just to say that you took part in the process, unfortunately we've seen the damage that can cause.
I'm prepared to cheer for the violent over throw of the government by alien lizard people.

Neat, and your neighbor also doesn't come over and daily insult your family for "accepting" a lesbian in to your family.

Every time I see someone responding about how Split98 is making a mountain out of a mole hill, I am silently yelling "READ THE MOTHERF&%$ING POST WHERE THIS ASSHAT SLAGS OFF HIS FAMILY".
Seriously, guys. If your neighbour is routinely disparaging a member of your family, how is that not a big deal?

Pretty much...I hate bullies and ignoring bullies is a losing strategy.
This restaurant manager in Vancouver lost his job for kicking out a MAGA wearing patron and has no regrets...but the restaurant might
I think that belittling Trump supporters is a losing strategy (the ones that might see reason get alienated)...however, I also think that letting them chirp without pointing out their foibles is a losing strategy too.

There are a number of methods:- call her on each and every thing, with references.
- use Socratic dialogue and ask her to explain something she will not be able to explain. She will soon realize she is full of it.
- agree and amplify as a way to mock her.
- consider her on the level of a child. You would not mock a child for not understanding something, right?
- ask her if maybe all that alternative lifestyle is giving her all of those diseases that the osteopaths diagnosing her with.

I disagree. There is a difference between believing in junk science and your political views. I feel this would just entrench them further.

Who cares what he does. I'm Headed down South today and will be there for their 4th of July. I went to Canadian Tire and got a cheezy maple leaf cowboy hat and I ordered online some cheezy Canadian flag shorts. I'm also going to sneak Canadian flag towels into the bathroom for my wife to see when she wakes up.
I'm going to look awesome sporting all my Canadian garb at the 4th of July party tomorrow!
It's all in fun. If someone gets upset, that's their problem....just like the OP. If your MAGA neighbour is getting under your skin, that's all on you.

Sorry but that manager should have been fired, the guy was wearing a hat, he wasn't creating a disturbance in the Restaurant. The Restaurant had no dress code, the guy was wearing a hat and doing his own thing.
I have no sympathy for the Manager.
If the MAGMA guy had been yelling about building a wall, and screaming at suspected da gays, then boot him your in the right.
