Brouwer: https://www.hockey-reference.com/pla...brouwtr01.html
His TOI is slowly decreasing, so any chance of him hitting 35-40 points is highly unlikely. Unfortunately, he didn't seize his opportunity of grabbing that 1st line spot with Monahan and Gaudreau. Instead, he's fighting for his life to stay in the lineup. At this point you just trade the guy, let him try to get some ice time on a different team. He's keeping guys like Jankowski and Mangiapane out of the lineup.

Its not that easy to "just trade" Brouwer. Durring the season most teams want to do $ for $ trades. Flames would have to take back just as many $'s as they are giving out, which means there still wouldn't be room for Janko. Posters need to realise that Brouwer is on this team for the season at bare minimum. Janko is getting on the team when there is an injury, not a trade.

Depends how close we are to the deadline, as his cap hit drops the closer to the deadline.
I wouldn't be shocked if we recouped a 3rd or 4th for Stajan in February.
Right now, we could probably retain and get a 4th.
*shrug* I don't know with NHL GMs though. I never would have expected anything for David Jones (Matthew Phillips) and yet here we are.

But Stajan still makes the team better. That's what you need when you're competing.
Trading Monahan would also free up a spot for Jankowski but that would be bad for the team. Just because the can do it doesn't mean they should do it.
Is Stajan the difference between winning the cup and missing the playoffs? No, of course not. But that doesn't change the fact that he plays that fourth line role well. There's no reason to trade an effective role player just to allow Jankowski into the lineup.
Now, if there are injuries and Jankowski comes up and shows he needs to stay up, then you can talk about trading Stajan. But then you're in a position of strength. Other GMs would probably be calling you inquiring about Stajan rather than having to make calls looking to sell him.

I didn't say it was easy, but it should be deeply considered. He doesn't fit with any line. He's on the 4th line for a reason.

Yeah, got to agree with this. I'm all for giving veterans extra slack to get going at the start of the season, but the signs with Brouwer just aren't good.
That said, if the team is doing fine and Jankowski isn't getting frustrated in Stockton there's no real rush to deal with the situation. Big ifs of course, but not out of the question.

Lazar played really well last game so that pretty much guarantees he's out of the lineup...

Nice, thanks for the reminder that the David Jones pick was Matthew Phillips. I'll take that deal any day! Definitely worth it to let the old goalie play a few games.. Phillips dominating so far.

I hope Lazar plays and plays well. I like his speed and would like to see him turn things around for himself and for the fortunes of the Flames.
If he plays I'll predict he gets a couple of points making the difference in this win this evening.

Thank-you! I actually forgot I was reading a thread about Lazar.
He has a wonderful opportunity tonight.

False. As per CP rules, every non-Jankowski thread must eventually become about Jankowski.
if you want to read about Lazar maybe go check the Jankowski thread?

Brouwer and Lazar both looked pretty good last night. Does that make Glass the odd man out when Jagr suits up?
Lazar - Stajan - Brouwer wouldn't be the worst fourth line if it it's overpaid.

I'm more impressed with Lazar than I am with Bennett so far. I guess it's all about expectations. Lazar is an energy guy who has some offense to him and he's lived up to that so far. He's a keeper for sure.

Jagr wont be replacing a player on the 4th line, the useless Brouwer should be sitting but he'll end up pushing Lazar out of the lineup

...but Lazar could replace Glass pretty nicely.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Versteeg - Bennett - Jagr
Lazar - Stajan - Brouwer
Glass hasn't been awful, but Lazar's speed on the forecheck and hustle all over the ice is a bigger positive than anything Glass brings.

Lazar did well last night I thought. Derek Wills doesn't agree with me of course cuz on the fan 960 this morning he says he thinks Lazar needs to get pulled out of the lineup so Jagr can play.
Kind of makes me mad cuz Brower did nothing last night again to deserve to stay in the lineup or on this team for that matter. If you keep screwing with a guy's confidence he's never going to get anywhere so why play Lazar for two games and then effing sit him? I'm just baffled by the decision.
Derek's main arguments was length of contract and the fact that Brouwer is still wearing an a. Fine length of contract sit his ass in the Press Box. Next strip the A off of his jersey he doesn't deserve it.
Lazar showed plenty of jump last night and I think his game will eventually improve if they just give him a chance instead of screwing around with his confidence like the Senators did.
Leaves me shaking my f head every time I turn around.
Heave-ho Brouwer needs to go.

We have 11 forwards that should be playing every night, 2 that each contribute in their own way and should rotate in and out, 1 that is the 14th forward and is fine with that role, and one who just doesn't belong that is not listed above.

I dunno, I saw a few comments in the game threads suggesting both Bart and Brouwer had good games. Did no one else notice that every time we were hemmed in, or there was a chance against, it was the 4th line and the 3rd defensive pairing. I get that, that's effectively our "worst" 5-man unit... but it doesn't really change that they were on for almost every chance against.
Maybe that's more of a coaching issue, that that unit is out there together so much....I don't know. I just can't agree that they had good games. They made desperate exciting plays because they had to, they either turned it over, lost position or otherwise that made for these thrilling spontaneous plays... I wouldn't call that a good game. Hamonic had a GOOD game, he quietly and effectively shut down people all night and didn't cause me to choke on my heart... (same goes for Smith).

Yeah, just remove Glass outright and this is exactly what I hope things look like eventually.
