A few thoughts:
- One, we are all upset right now as this team is on a downward skid, and in fairness they don't look like they can recover. But truth is, the Flames are still a team fighting for a playoff spot and they may very well end up in one at the end of the year, so who knows if they improved or not yet, all we know for sure is this is not a contender yet, which is something we shouldn't have thought them to be.
- We don't know that the owners aren't ok with investing in a Brouwer just to make the young guys better in the long run (theoretically). We don't know if they view it as worth it or not.
- I do believe that Brouwer (and others) were brought in not just to "help" for future, but to also help this team actually win over the course of that contract. I also believe that they figured this team will get better each year of those contracts thus maximizing the value of having a guy like Brouwer around the most at the end of his term. If this team misses the playoffs this year, I'm sure this org will view it as a failure (as they should) as I'm sure a step back to the playoffs was the step they expected them to take on their way to actually becoming a contender a few years from now. But I don't believe anyone involved with this team (including owners) were actually expecting a contender this year, playoffs probably, contender I very much doubt it.

Be measured in any moves. If we panic we give away something for nothing. Remember who we traded Marc Savard for?
Figure out why GG has lost the room. No passion in team. No fight for each other when wronged.
Lets bring Gelinas downstairs to bench as assistant coach. He has passion!
Bring up Riddich for a few games. Both Johnson and Elliott are slumping now. Nothing to lose. We also need to know if Riddich is a viable backup for next year. His SA% is lights out in AHL (2nd in AHL).
Wait for trade deadline season and then sell, sell, sell... Todd Button's team has been fantastic at finding some gems. Give them 10+picks to keep stocking the cupboard. Could even retain some salary to move Wideman at deadline (I will take a 4th rounder for him).

Now is not the time to be discussing headache-worthy trade proposals. We're in the worst kind of "sell low" position right now in terms of bargaining.
When the team is in this crazy black hole of suck right now, I'd bet that every team in the league is eyeing the struggling core - Gaudreau, Bennett, Hamilton, Brodie (and even Monahan at points this season) and licking their chops hungrily. I'd also wager that Treliving has been asked about them all season, and ad nauseaum over the last week and a half.
Fortunately for us, he doesn't seem like the type to make panic trades even if his future with the team being questioned.

#### no! I would never make that trade either. Who the #### cares about the Isles.
Fire the damn coach before you trade Money.
Trade some deadweight players, maybe, to make room for some of the AHL studs.

terrible.
one year of Tavares doesn't get Monahan let alone adding a 1st, Tavares in the end will pick his destination after next season and will probably get between $8-9m and no farther west than Detroit.

Do nothing.... hope they play their way out of this. If out if playoffs, move out the ufas.
Draft high, figure out critical gaps: (goaltender, top6 RW, top4 d).
Stabilize mgmt team. If ur not sure ur keeping gm, no point in firing coach. I wouldn't mind seeing treliving being given another 2-3 years.
This team is lacking confidence but also doesn't have enough skill. I'd also like to see brouwer gone and a hard look at giordano and what options that may be there...

John Tavares has 2 years left on his contract (including this season) then he would be an UFA.
Flames can not afford to make this type of a trade.

What the team needs most is a competent starting goalie. They aren't going to get that at this point in the season.
Any other move they make is just a band-aid that isn't going to fix the team's biggest problem. Yes they have other issues, but unless the one between the pipes is fixed, working on the rest means nothing.

Is the Ferland experiment almost over? Isn't he supposed to be one of these guys that (as Treliving states) plays a "heavy" game?

I'm trying to have a healthier relationship with the Flames, and in that vein I'll offer this: at least ownership in Calgary has Burke in charge of hockey operations. I'm not convinced that Treliving is a good GM but he has no contract next year and Burke has the final say in hockey ops.
Winnipeg? I have to deal with Chevy, and probably for 3 or 4 more years. The most complacent, incompetent, do nothing GM in hockey. And owners who make money left and right off my city and don't spent it on the team.
Calgary has nice young pieces and ownership willing to spend to the cap. Flames will be back in the playoffs before Winnipeg.

For everyone saying trade Gio, right now is the worst time for that. If you decide you should trade him the best timing would be right after the expansion draft. As most teams with a great top 4 will lose one of them o Vegas. As a result D-men will go at a premium both as UFA's and in trades. I also think that trading Gio for a sniper would be a mistake. It would have to be a package centered around an up and coming D-men.
The only thing this team needs is to start losing those days off, and a few bag skates until they show they care.

Can we make Gulutzan a healthy scratch? He may benefit from watching a few games from the press box.
