Avenue Magazine did it's job and we're discussing it.
Bash em all we want, but here we are talking about their neighbourhood list every single year.

The entire NE should have been lumped together as 1 community and been last on that list.

Ours is 42nd, but seriously Riverbend, Ogden, Marlbourough, and Forest Lawn are head scratchers.

The tossing aside of an entire quarter of their city is one of the ugliest things Calgarians do.

I dunno man, if Avenue doesnt rank it then maybe it doesnt exist.
Now that I think about it, I've never seen or been to Mahogany and as far as I know I dont know anyone who has.
Perhaps the existence of this allegedly 'Award-Winning' community is nothing more than an elaborate hoax that the hard-hitting journalists over at Avenue are trying to expose!

Not at all. I know full well I don't live in a top 10 community and would think less of the list if it did include mine. It's just that they have some pretty crappy communities ranked very high and some pretty good communities ranked very low. It's a nonsensical mess which is the only reason I bash it.

Honestly, my community didnt even crack the top 100.
If there are 100 better communities than mine then we live in the greatest place on earth.

I should clarify. I live in Canyon Meadows myself, and wasn't trying to start a suburban/inner city debate. I've also lived in Braeside, Fairview, Douglasdale and Thorncliffe. In all of those neighbourhoods, there are 1 or 2 strip malls, and you pretty much have to drive elsewhere for other options. That just seems to be the general setup for a suburban community in Calgary, no?

That's because you don't have any restaurants. Which seems to skew these numbers pretty good. Which also hurts the walkability.
My point is everyone has their bias towards their own community. That's why theY live there. People who's community shows up on top ranking rub it in that they were right in choosing that location where people that aren't will continue to argue that those communities are junk. It's the lake argument all over again

Royal Oak #95, cracked the top 100 I guess. This is where I expect I will end up in a year or two, so not a bad thing that property values go done slightly and is not in super high demand. Wouldn't mind a decent deal on a house.

For sure. The entire east side should be tossed aside.

Out of the top ten I've lived in Dalhousie, Acadia and Arbour Lake... I don't really think any of them should be top 10.
And Ranchlands beats out Canyon Meadows? lol.

There is no way this list could possibly affect property values or demand.

The NE communities between Center St and Deerfoot are nice.

Did part of the NE get expropriated to the NW in that map?

For the win!
Must be the location a bit; can get to things pretty fast with john laurie, crowchild and stoney all only a few mins away. That and can walk to pretty much every store imagineable at Crowfoot. 20 min to my choice of 3 or more grocery stores, plus a c-train station. IT is super convenient.
That or perhaps the list is solely based on doctors and dentist offices . I've never seen such a concentration of both in my life; they are all over the place.

Haha the Beltline is #1? Wow. That surprises me. I guess walkability trumps living in a soviet era concrete bunker.
