Way too many people on here forgetting about the upcoming expansion draft. No sense in giving up assets for a #4 d-man like that until that's out of the way.

One more note about Gudbranson:

He was tasked with shadowing John Tavares in the playoffs this year, and while he was good for the most part when I watched, he and his team were torched for 9 points in 6 games. What does this mean? He's a good defensive d-man, but you cannot expect him to go against the best players in the league. He will get burned.

Because they should be accumulating picks and prospects, not trading them away. It would be like if two years ago the Flames traded Jankowski+34 overall for Luke Schenn. It's a dumb move given the current state of the franchise, just my opinion.

We can look forward to lil Johnny dancing around Gudbranson for years to come!

I wonder if this trade makes it more palatable for Vancouver to swap 5 for 6 and a 2nd with us...

Anyone know off the top of their head how many picks we have in the top 100 vs. Vancouver? For a team who's starting to rebuild that must be comical.

ya I thought the same thing, Tavares did play really well that series and shot about 20% so the total points is a bit inflated but I don't think Gudbranson is a top pairing shutdown guy, he won't need to be here either because Tanev is

I wouldn't. A better pylon is still a pylon.

The game has passed guys like Engelland and Gudbranson by. You need to be able to skate and have some semblance of skill.

I have a suspicion that Bolland gets moved in some sort of crap for crap deal in order to make room for McCann.
For a second there, I read Bolland as Bollig and thought I missed Treliving working his magic in somehow off-loading him to Florida

The game has passed a player who is 24 years old and was a third overall draft pick? You might want to turn on an NHL game that doesn't involve the Canadiens.

Um, Gudbranson is a pretty damned good skater. He's just not managed to reach expectations of a top 5 pick. He's Erik Johnsonesque in that way.

See, this deal wouldn't be so terrible if it were made by the Canucks of four or five years ago. It's the situation they're in, where they're not going to be a contender for years even if they do things right, that makes this a silly trade.

If going after guy like Gudbranson is Benning's solution to not taking a D with his 1st rounder this year than that solution means still no future top pairing D.

They need a future #1C far more. But unless Dubois exceeds expectations they probably won't get one of those either. They needed the draft lottery win probably more than anyone. The Leafs could have settled for someone to play on Nylander's wing, but the Canucks just have no one to succeed H Sedin and it's been an obvious problem for years now.

I mean, my opinion on McCann was stated when he was drafted. He went in the first round to a Canadian city that would embrace him like no other and he walked up to the podium like he was in a funeral procession and then his interview afterwards gave me the impression he wanted no part in coming to Vancouver.

You don't draft guys like Gudbranson that high anymore. Florida figured out they'd goofed, and pawned him off to some sucker (whom I hope remains employed for a long time).

I've seen more than enough of Gudbranson. He sucks. Do not want.

Yep....

that says an awful lot about this trade. Wasnt Mitchell the former team captain in FLA?

I wish Gudbranson was coming here. That's the #4 guy we need to finish off our top 2 pairings for the next 5 years.

I thought he still was the Captain. Did I miss his retirement?
