I'm assuming he'll be expansion exempt?

Based on the very little we know about the proposed expansion draft rules, he may be. Who knows if pro experience outside of the NHL will factor in though? No one here on CP.

Colborne, except if Colborne were elite and not Colborne!

I've always thought of myself as sort of a shorter, non-hockey-playing Colborne.

That's good that they finally signed this guy. I just hope people will not put a very high expectation on this guy just yet. I am hoping the Flames will do the same thing as what they did to Nakladal.. slowly let him learn the North American professional league then once they think he is ready call him up. Only thing I don't want them to do is call him late in the season and play him on the 4th line. Let him play in 2nd or 3rd line where he can learn to contribute and also play more than 5 minutes in one game.

Good post, I 100% agree with you.

Pribyl shouldn't be our #1 RW winger right away. I think when we got Cervenka, we thrust him into that top-six centre role far too quickly, and he got disoriented in the North American game. I'd like to see Daniel start the year in the AHL -- barring some sort of stellar training camp. He's injured anyway, and that could lead to him missing camp, so he'll probably start in the A anyway.

Personally I think Pribyl should slot in as a first line...............

Let him come to camp and see what we have. I really know nothing about the guy and am not willing to give him a spot just cause we signed him. He is a new toy. Looks like a great pick up, no assets wasted getting him either.

Let his play justify where he should be. Definately interested in what he can bring. And to derail the thread want to see what Janko brings too.

Hello guys,

nice article today in Czech media.

http://isport.blesk.cz/clanek/hokej-...odla-rekl.html

I know I know, you are not good in Czech language :-)Okay, that is why you have me :-) Here is the small recap:
----------

Headline of the article is: Pribyl declined Russia, was in negotiation with Pens and San Jose, Calgary won with their vision

-Daniel knows it is still a long way to NHL
- bump on the road when talking about his injury
- It is great feeling to sign with Flames
- not flying in the sky, his feets are on the ground......
- his main goal is to play every game in NHL, honoured he was chosen by a club with a big tradition like Calgary Flames
- he did his decision to sign with Flames before the injury, after that managment from Flames immediately called him that they will take care of everything /injury/.... GM Brad Treliving was in touch with him
-was not 100% sure if Flames will still be interested in him after this injury
-decided for CGY because they have a great vision about their club, they know what they want to be and Calgary managment seems like a big family to him
-feels it was a good decision
-there was also interest from KHL, he doesn ´t like KHL, so it was no brainer
- interest also from Scandinavia, he likes it there so that was the option at the beginning, after that he and his agent started to talk about NHL
- surgery went great, in CGY now, rehabs for his knee
- Flames are taking great care of him in CGY now, has a great feeling about everything around Flames organization....

That is +- all my friends!

GO FLAMES!

I'm hoping he'll come in and put up somewhere around 60 points. I'm not expecting it though. I understand that there is always a transition and each and every person handles situations differently and adapt at different paces. If he needs to start in the AHL to take time to adapt to the North American game and lifestyle, then that is where he needs to be. You can only hope that he is accepting of that and continues to work hard to get to the NHL. Obviously, the quicker the better.

Cervenka was a victim of high expectations and those were partially created by Feaster. He also had blood clots that slowed down his adaptation period, and just wasn't well received because of how Flames management advertised him to the fans. It sounds like he may have been promised more than he should have been and that probably soured his North American experience. If Cervenka was signed during the Treliving era, I think the transition would have been more smooth and he could possibly still playing in the NHL.

update on Pribyl's recovery

http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=891603

Nothing too earthshattering. Making progress. Is back on the ice.

A few quotes from Treliving and Pascal saying they won't rush him, so probably won't take part in Penticton or main camp if you read between the lines.

Also a good quote from Pascal about how well he is adjusting to North America.
