This organization has boatloads of quality prospects and very serviceable bottom 6 players who would be a great fit for alot of teams. Especially those making run. (Not that contenders are willing to part with too 6 talent)

But... Hudler is a top 6 guy, great leader and has won a cup.

Out D prospects are arguably among the best in the league in terms of depth.

Hudler and a D prospect gets you a top 6 young talent.

Treliving can turn draft picks into young franchise defensemen.

So why would anyone not want Treliving to acquire draft picks? He's already shown that he knows how to use them properly as commodities. Draft picks are assets. Young players are assets.

If we aren't going to re-sign Hudler (and I don't think we should unless he would do it on a real sweetheart deal) then the prudent move is to get assets for him. It doesn't particularly matter what type of asset you get as long as you get the best value for him. If the best value is a 2nd round draft pick or more then I think we should all be confident that Treliving can utilize that asset well either in trades or that Tod Button can potentially convert it into a player.

The Flames right now have a wealth of young players and picks. Adding more young players or picks just gives Treliving even more flexibility to deal them for exactly what we need. The Hamilton trade shows he's not scared to move assets in a big move to fill holes in our long term depth.

I suspect the Hamilton trade isn't the last picks/prospects for young player in a key age range type deal that Treliving makes.

Yeah I like our D prospects, and the list is a far cry from even just a year ago, but it's still far from amognst best in the league
