I believe that good teams tend to find ways to rally and kill off "good" penalties like ones where a guy sticks up for a young teammate. Especially with a two goal lead late in the game like tonight.

Slashes like that are vicious and happen to Johnny at least once per game. He is going to break something one day if something isn't done about it. People can argue jumping the culprit won't deter players from doing it but it would at the very least draw attention to it. It's going uncalled so often by referees that an overreaction by the team itself is the only way to wake them up to it. The flames should absolutely maul anyone that takes shots like that on gaudreau. After a few games of that... Maybe game supervisors and refs would finally start noticing slashes on gaudreau and would make sure a penalty is called for it before things get out of hand.

Agree with this sentiment wholeheartedly. If I'm the opposing team and the generally accepted rule is you can slash the #### out of Johnny, why wouldn't you?

Bolls or Engo need to send a message. Both to refs league wide and opposing players. Most likely Engo since Bolls most likely will never be on the same ice surface as Johnny at the same time. Ever.

Except practice.

Some random thoughts:

Granlund seems to have increased his speed this year as well as looking physically stronger.
Gio is back.
Bennett, even when not scoring, is very noticeable and is a distraction to the other team.
Backlund is improving each game.
Hudler is much more noticeable and has more drive.
Our top 3 looks like a real top three defence.
Monahan is skating better and looking confident.
Johnny is, well, Johnny.

I've been a huge fan of rolling four lines. It is working. Keep it up! Great game all around, and exciting! The boys are back.

Noticed Bennett making himself at home at the top of the crease on power plays. Awesome.

That Bennet Granlund Hudler unit looked pretty good. I would leave Jones with Monahan and Johnny.

Backlund was great tonight, along with his whole line.

Stajan played well too, as did his line.

Giordano is starting to look like himself. Hamilton gets better every game and made a few plays last night that showed his confidence is returning.

The whole team played well and competed.

It is a crime to the hockey world that Gaudreau doesn't get an assist for that goal that was called back. Sure, it was offside. But they should have just said 'keep the assist' because that play was ridiculous.

Nice to see that Hudler was more noticeable.

I thought Ramo played well but was also very lucky on a few plays that could easily have been goals.

The Flames are now playing well enough to make the playoffs, but the goaltending still isn't good enough to allow it - if he played like tonight every night, I still don't think they would win often enough. I would love to see a move for Bernier if they can get him cheap.

Oh, and Granlund looks like he is here to stay. I was never really big on him and didn't think he had enough to be a full time NHLer. But he was solid last night. He looks stronger and faster this year.

Their line was great. Bennett is going to be something. We as a fan base would be circle-jerking over him every night if it weren't for the fact that Johnny Hockey is out there (deservedly) owning the spotlight.

Bennett looks amazing and I've noticed that the Hamilton doubters and critics have stopped thinking we should trade him.

This team looks like it's ready to turn the corner... Last year same thing happened, hopefully this year too. I just want one of Bolig or England to jump whoever touches Johnny next.

You just know that they'll get a penalty for it though, even though the guys who repeatedly slash Gaudreau get away with it every time.

I turned the game off after 2 periods (had to get up early)...and for the first time it was for a GOOD reason: I was very confident that the Flames were going to win that game.

I haven't felt like that in a very, very long time.

At this point it doesn't matter. Someone said it before, one of these times Johnny won't be able to just shake it off. Next game is against Buffalo, if someone hacks Johnny again then you either beat the crap out of them or go after Eichele. I hate that teams get a free pass on Johnny, it's like the refs think it isn't that bad and he shouldn't get special treatment because he's smaller or some crap like that. If the players won't do it, Hartley needs to.

Gaudreau gives as good as he gets, probably the most active slasher on the team.

Ferland needs to be on Gaudreau’s opposite wing. Jones has more goals but there really isn't a whole lot different between them. I'd argue that Ferland actually has more skill and hockey sense.

Teams already know not to mess with Ferland.

Fully agree on protecting Gaudreau.

There are good penalties and bad penalties. I would never criticize a guy for standing up for his team-mates (unless it is late in a close, must-win game).

But if you protect your team-mates throughout the year, it's unlikely that the other team is taking liberties in a close game anyway.

You HAVE to stand up for your team-mates. The refs will even out the penalties anyway.

I'm all for rolling 4 lines at home when you are in the position to determine the match ups. The only issue is when your 4th line is constantly up against 1st or 2nd lines in away games. It happens way too often this year and I think is the major reason we are getting spanked away from the dome.

Completely agree.

Ferland has the speed, and the size, and the hands to be effective on that line. Not Hudler-effective, but better than Jones, once he settles in.

I have been advocating for Ferland in that spot for some time.

Well Ferland needs to play at a consistent level and bring "it" more often than if he wants it, he'd be an anchor on that line at the moment.

Jones has been playing well pretty much all season now, plays a simple up and down game with a good first shot, he compliments Monahan and Gaudreau well. Ferland needs to up his game if he wants a spot like that.

I like Ferland a lot, and I think he will eventually move up the lineup. Like was said above, he doesn't play the way he has to do do that night in and night out. if he does - one word: Look Out. :0

But Jones is seriously underestimated by a lot of posters here. He knows his limitations and plays a simple game, but I disagree he lacks hockey sense. Look at his pass the other night to Gaudreau. he is good at knowing when to press the forecheck and he has a hell of a wrist shot.

Aside from Gaudreau, Jones has had the most consistency out of all the forwards this year IMO.
