Yeah, can't say I agree. My wife, who normally does not watch games with me was and she looked at me at one point and said "Is this a Canucks home broadcast?"

“It was exciting at the start,” said newest Flames defenceman Dougie Hamilton. “I thought, ‘Wow, this is a really good team this year and it’s gonna be a lot of fun,’ and then the tide just turned. There was no pushback from us after that. It’s was a frustrating game and we have to figure out what we can do better.”

“They out-executed us, outworked us. Truthfully, they embarrassed us in our home-opener,” said Flames defenceman and alternate captain Kris Russell.
“We’ve gotta realize it was a bit of a joke the way we came out. If we want to be anywhere near the team we were last year, we can’t even be coming close to the effort we put in tonight. We were built on hard work. We were built on a committee effort.
“We didn’t have too many guys going, and we’re not a team built on one or two lines. We’ve got a few days to figure it out. Obviously, it’s one game but every game is important, especially against the division. To play like that it doesn’t feel too good.”

Now it is Calgary's turn to ruin Vanouvers home opener.

The puck goes over Russell, not under his armpit.

Your right. At a certain angle it does look like it goes under bit fromthe second vantage point it clearly goes over . Either way the pass, shot and save is only a inch of difference.

Scoring Winger
|
The most frustrating part for me was all the forced passes the Flames made. Someone would be completely covered, and they would still try and make the pass to them-- only to have it intercepted or knocked away. This killed our possession game and ensured we never had the puck. It happened an uncharacterstic amount of times, and from players up and down the Flames' lineup.
It seemed like we lost a lot of faceoffs too, which never helps. Could you imagine if we were in the top half of the league for winning faceoffs?!

The bad news: that was one of the worst games I've seen from the Flames in over a calendar year. Nobody was sharp. Team systems were a shambles. We looked like a bottom feeder. Goaltending was reminiscent of Joey MacDonald and Reto Berra.
The good news: everyone had at least one shift where they looked excellent. That might not mean much in a blowout, but it means they have the capabilities to be effective and just didn't bring it tonight. The coaching staff has a lot of work to do over the next couple of days to get them ready for the next game. Precision and work ethic need to be keyed on specifically.
Also, please sit Ramo for a while. He wasn't the only one to blame for tonight, but he did nothing to help his team. Defense having an off night? You need to find a way to keep them in it. Ramo really failed tonight and is a major reason why the team didn't play with much confidence. It starts with your goaltender. Hiller and Ortio should have been the tandem this year anyway, and signing Ramo has only confused things. Can't wait for this 3 goalie thing to be over.

That was tough to watch.
Obviously it's very early and scoring was far from their only problem last night, but I wouldn't mind Hartley trying some different combinations to spread out the scoring.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Frolik
Ferland-Bennett-Hudler
Bouma-Backlund-Jooris
Bollig-Stajan-Jones
Or even bring in Granlund and move Bennett to the wing.
Bennett-Granlund-Hudler
They're going to need a better 2nd line this year, plain and simple. Bouma/Backlund are perfect 3rd liners but can't be depended on for scoring often.

If Ramo was the best Flame we are in trouble... He was awful. Whats the point of making an amazing save off of Sedin only to let one in an few minutes later on what should be an easy save.. The team went downhill from then on...
Ramo flops around like a fish.. If Ramo or Hiller are not so great then give Ortio the reins... And if he cant get it done then give Gillies a chance...

Tough game to watch but a wake up call on the home opener isn't the worst thing to happen. With all the changes to this team, it's going to take some time to find out exactly what works and to get things going but this team has so much potential it's hard not to still be excited about them even after a stinker.
Ramo was Ramo. He's not an all star like Price and he's not terrible like Skriveznia. I wasn't really expecting too much more from him because he's an average goalie, and I don't mean that in a bad way. I think our goalie situation is going to be the hardest thing for this team to figure out and still maintain that Ortio will be our starter by about Christmas time. Before, we had Kipper but center depth and our D was our downfall, now it seems like we have amazing D and good depth at center but our goalie situation is questionable. Give it time and it'll get figured out.
As much of a bad game as this was, there were some positives, some guys showed they deserve more ice time and others showed they deserve less. There's chemistry with some and not with other, guys can see what they need to work on moving forward and this was probably good slap in the face to wake everyone up.
It's weird but as let down as I am after this loss, I'm still really excited about this team. The coaching staff seems like the kind of guys that will make this team learn from their mistakes and this group of players seem like they'll do whatever they can to improve. I still think this is an amazing team that'll do well this year.

So the league is 0-4 in home openers so far. Will be a nice stat to track.

Oh wow, that was a complete disaster. Total lack of effort by a really flat Flames team.
Not sure any players had a good game....
Tough game to watch on TV, Sedin's totally dominated.

Wow one game and pretty much everyone was blaming Ramo for the lost. Yes he gave in 5 goals, a few of the deflections and others were because of Canucks crashing the nets. Watching the game in the enemy territory here in North Vancouver it sounded like they are planning the Stanley Cup parade already after the game. Flames overall I think did not play very well. They looked like they are trying to impress the crowd so much early but backfired. Canucks plan is to try to get Ferland early so they don't have to worry about him hitting every Canucks that moves. It is only the first game. They'll bounce back next game.

Ramo wasn't the reason for the loss, team in front of him had a bad game.
Ramo, however was inconsistent.
I would bet, he is the backup in the next game.
