The big question I guess is, "Are more innocent people going to be executed, or are more innocent lives going to be saved by it's existence?"

If someone, could somehow answer that question, it would be much easier to justify the the fact that whatever evil human being did this, will still have the privilege of some sort of life, as undignified as it may end up, it it still life. I don't think that the state has any right to commit legal murder. Death should never be a government sanctioned punishment against its own citizens, it's barbaric and archaic. It also does not seem to be a deterrent to violent crime, so it ends up being state sanctioned vigilante justice. That being said, a bit o vigilante justice while in the clink just happens sometimes, you know? What can ya do?

There's no guarantee that threat of death penalty would dissuade people capable of murder from doing it.

Nice to see the Grandfather of the little girl spend as much time trashing the dead father, than to show concern about his own Granddaughter's well being. I don't agree at all with the Calgary Sun printing garbage like that. Show some compassion for the victims....

I hope the guy that did this, once convicted of murder of this 2 year old, gets raped a lot in prison for the rest of his life.

Or just an easy access program for the general prison population. Much cheaper.

Psychics pray on desperate people in situations like this, maybe they should get the death penalty

I used to be a big proponent of the death penalty, then I softened, I became a big proponent of the death penalty for multiple murderers or child murderers or cop killers. then I softened up again.

I don't want this guy raped in prison, or beaten or tortured by other inmates. My preference is for three squares a day, a bed, and because he's a child killer who probably won't survive in general pop, segregation in a 23 hour a day lockup, where his life will be like living in a coffin, but his body refuses to die, and he's tortured by his lack of social interaction and all he can hear is the screams and cries of his victim over and over again in every waking hour and whenever he closes his eyes. And he's forgotten about and left to rot for 60 years.

Horrible news. Woke up with the news as my alarm clock this morning and this story is what I heard. Absolutely heart breaking.

#### rehab and rehabilitation for child killers. And a slap to the head of anybody who suggests it after a horrific crime like this. IMO there is no room for scum like that to be rehabilitated after murdering an innocent 2 year old. WTF did he expect to gain from doing so? Honestly I don't even want to know. I can only take solace in the fact that this guy will live in isolation for the rest of his days. He's only 22, so here's hoping to a good 60+ years of him living in a small cell with little human contact.

Scum of the earth, and proof that pure evil walks among us in this world.

It just rips your heart out.

It's hard to imagine what could make someone harm an innocent child.

While I don't agree with state induced death penalties or torture, I hope things take care of themselves in prison and the perp gets his due.

Vigilante justice over the due process of the courts? People are nuts.

Especially in a case like this, that looks like a combination of extreme idiocy and panic.

I hope this thread doesn't turn into a capital punishment debate. I hate when media/public focus on the killer(s) in tragic stories like this one. But I suppose it is how some people vent their feelings or grieve.

I'm not even in the area, but when the amber alert was issued, the little girl was in the back of my mind essentially all day hoping she would be found OK. I'm so sad about this; and angry as well. How can a 2-year old be anything but a perfect little angel? Who could do such a thing?

I have no words for this. There are no words of comfort when a child is brutalized and murdered.

That's assuming he even has remorse, or cares about what he did. Which in most cases, these guys do not. They think they are the true victims, because they are being punished.
