His price was so high that it amounted to a veto.
With the new generation running the Hawks, it's possible they might be more willing to let a team locate in Milwaukee. I believe they'd still be entitled to compensation, however.

The Bhawks aren't entitled to an indemnification fee of any size because the league rule is that a new team must be outside a 80 km (50 mile) radius from the established team's area.

Unless the ASU is going to build a new facility for their new Div I team, or Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian community is going to kick in a few hundred million to build a new area for the Coyotes, there just isn't enough land in prime locations to take advantage of.

The arena the Suns play in is around 25 years old. Is there talk of the Suns wanting a new arena? I could see the Coyotes wanting to play in the new digs.

Yeah, there's talk. How long it takes for anything to happen though and whether it will be in time to save the Coyotes is another question.

The Phoenix Suns play in one of the oldest arenas in the National Basketball Association and could soon be looking at major renovations to US Airways Center or possibly a new arena altogether.
One scenario being talked about — at least in real estate and downtown Phoenix circles — is a new arena being built where the current South Building of the Phoenix Convention Center is on Jefferson and Third streets. That is the oldest convention center building and is a block away from the Suns' current arena.

And I guess that’s about it for this morning … wait, what?!?“We’re definitely going to have to get a new arena built,” [Phoenix Suns owner Robert] Sarver said. “Our lease runs for another eight years maybe. Between us and the city, we’ve done a good job maintaining it despite its age but it’s starting to run out of gas. It’s like a house. It gets to be 30 years old and then you’ve got a lot of work to do. You can remodel or build a new house.”

I always wondered why the City of Glendale didn't just throw a sack of cash towards the Suns instead of throwing good dollar after bad towards the Coyotes. At least the number of fans would be substantial in that case.
For the amount of money they've given the Coyotes, they could have gotten the Suns to break their lease and gave them a great deal. Suns fans would have been mad that they had to travel a million miles to see basketball games but the sack of cash would have made up for it.
It would have also killed the US Airways Arena, probably getting more concerts for Glendale in the long run.

On this point, you and I agree. Honestly, the only way the Coyotes could wait on the Suns to make a decision on a new facility would be if the Suns owner bought the Coyotes.

Well then you also finally agree that the Coyotes can't wait and need to move to be financially viable.

I am quite certain I have told you this before Vulcan, but don't put words in my mouth. You are not nearly smart enough to speak for me.
The only thing that comment demonstrates to me is that you have been completely unable to comprehend my arguments in the past.

Yeah, it's amusing that I can't even agree with him on something without his picking a fight.

Not picking a fight, just stating the obvious. Originally it was all you picking the fight and getting very personal about it. If you don't like it you should have thought about what you were saying a long time ago.

There is no talk. None of the municipalities in Metro Phoenix have been approached by the Suns. There would have to be major discussions held between the Coyotes and the Suns to come to some sort of agreement on the building. The Suns have mentioned they would like a new building, one tailored for basketball, but they have not reached out to anyone on this. The Coyotes involvement would require a much different design and compromises would have to be made. There is a lot of stuff to be worked out long before the two teams were to approach a municipality. Frankly, the political climate for a new building for either team is non-starter at the moment. State and municipal governments are slashing budgets all over the place. Any contribution to a new sport facility would mean a massive revolt at the ballot box. This is a non-starter for the foreseeable future.

If things go sideways for the City and the Coyotes and Bettman moves the team to Vegas, they could play in Orleans Arena until the new one is done.
|
It is curious that the season ticket drive resulted in 10000 interested parties in Vegas and the hockey capacity for Orleans arena is 9500. Hmmm.
Was thinking maybe QC but all the arguments about divisional alignment kill that idea. Will have to wait for the islanders I suppose once the Brooklyn experiment fails.

Orleans arena could just be a stop gap for one season until the new rink is finished. In fact, it could potentially be a brilliant move. Restricting supply could potentially increase demand. People want what they can't have. Once they open at the new rink in '16-17, they might have even more season ticket deposits from the folk who kinda sat on their hands and waited until there was some concrete evidence of a team in LV.
I don't think the Islanders fail in Brooklyn. Despite the fact that Barclays is an hour away, NY is so densely populated that the rink will still fill up IMO. Panthers move to QC. Expansion team in Seattle & Toronto, Columbus back to the West.

Glendale staffer resigns over arena audit
http://www.azcentral.com/story/news/...1/?hootPostID=[%27ee66921b310213c959f951f97be0a03d%27]
An internal conflict between City Auditor Candace MacLeod and Assistant City Auditor Andrea McDermott-Fields over the Coyotes audit led McDermott-Fields to resign from her $95,000-per-year job with Glendale in April, according to public records obtained Friday by The Arizona Republic.
"The basis of my resignation is that you have changed my findings in a way that is not acceptable to me or in accordance with the information that I have gathered," McDermott-Fields said in her April 21 resignation letter. Glendale hired her in January
