Hartley and Russell say we have to be better.....
Quote:
“We’ve gotta clean it up,” said Kris Russell. “This is our season. It’s desperation now. Teams we’re fighting for playoff spots with are on hot streaks and are playing their best hockey of the season. We’ve gotta do the same.”
“If this is the way we’re going to play at this time of the year, it’s just not good enough,” said the Flames defender. “We have to be better. We expect a lot of ourselves. We’ve shown character throughout the whole season and I’m sure we’ll do it.”
“We can’t keep doing that, where we get down two or three goals and expect to come back and win every game,” Russell said. “Especially at this time of the year, especially if we want to be a playoff team. The next two games are huge. They’re must-wins from now on. You’re in a situation where everyone around you is winning. We have to be better.”
Quote:
“He gave us a chance,” Hartley said. “That’s what you want from a goalie. We knew the Wild are a very good hockey club and we knew they’d come at us. We knew we needed a strong performance from our goaltender and we got it . . . (The Wild) are very impressive.”
Quote:
“I told them (Friday) morning, getting two points in October, November, it’s never easy,” said Hartley, whose club visits Nashville, Dallas, St. Louis, and Edmonton on this swing before returning home.
“But getting two points at this time of the year considering the races that are going on in the Western Conference, we need to find another gear.
“With seven games to go, we need to keep going and at an even bigger pace.”
You lose the best defenseman in the league and possible Norris candidate, yeah it's a lot harder to win. After a loss like this I wonder what Gio is like next year. Is he better or will age catch up to him?
One thing this year was that he was fast, incredibly fast. His acceleration was crucial to our teams ability to send defense in to help the rush, without it our forecheck plays like it did tonight. Losing one of the best breakout passes hurts too, we probably have 4-6 more points in the standings with the captain.
On a positive note at least it wasn't a knee or leg injury that might effect his mobility. Hopefully his arm heals nicely and he gets back to where he left off.
Ok so WE lost. Still really proud of OUR FLAMES. Plus this TEAM plays way better when behind the eight ball. Either in games or the standings. So they are exactly where they have been most of the year....Underdogs who want tp prove experts wrong....oh and for all those posters who post negative comments , I'm just glad OUR Team does not have your character traits!!!! In sports, once you start having doubts about yourself or your teammates, it's game over and that is not what we have seen this year and trend will therefore continue....I'm with Johnny Hockey. WE WILL MAKE THE PLAYOFFS.
I think that what makes this losing skid so frustrating IS the fact that the boys never give up. This much heart deserves to be rewarded. It does not deserve a losing skid to fall out of it. There is nothing left in the tank, but they won't quit. Win or lose, that is what will always define this year's team.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.
There is no 'what if'... like what if Gio is playing and so on. Flames lost to a very good determined hockey team. Score would have been a blown out if it wasn't for Ramo. The boys tried hard but the Wild was suffocating them. Makes you wonder of the reason Devan Dubnyk plays lights out most of his games. I thought the Stajan's line was buzzing all night. Flames lost and game is over with so let's move on to the next game.
I'm immensely proud of this team. Whether we make the playoffs or not - I believe.
There was this guy I knew before the season started who said we'd for sure make the playoffs now that we acquired Hiller. I thought he was crazy, and as it turns out we've been sniffing around the playoffs all year. That speaks to me for how incredible this season has been - this team wasn't supposed to go anywhere and we were supposed to be down in the basement with the McDavid hopefuls, if not the front-runners. I also recall last year my dad saying that if we could turn all those one-goal games into wins, we could make it this year.
I don't think anyone will regret this season, or at least they shouldn't. There will always be people who argue that it would've been better for us to tank and have a chance at McDavid, but it needs to be kept in mind that this remarkable season doesn't happen if the kids don't make leaps in their development this year the way they have, and the veterans don't step up. The 2014-15 Flames will always be remembered for their incredible character in the face of adversity - and while it would be nice to make the playoffs this year to shove it to all the naysayers, it wouldn't stop them from doubting the Flames. They'd just challenge us to make the playoffs a second time next year. The hockey world will not respect us until we become continuous contenders, and we will just have to accept that and get used to it. But being the underdog is fun.
But maybe this team has one more magic trick left. I can't wait to see if I'm right.
Hold your heads up high Flames fans. Our boys went above and beyond the call of duty this year already. Let's just wait and see if they can take the last step.

There should be no shame with this team whether they make the playoffs or not. At this point, it's pretty clear that we just don't have the talent level to keep up with these other teams, which should be expected as we're in year 2 of a rebuild and have not went wild with FA signings.
This team is successful this year because of work ethic and heart...wherever they finish the season, I can say that i'm damn proud to be a fan!
I hope the boys finish out the regular season with a balls to the wall, nothing to lose style of play. GFG
Mcdavid said he won't play for a team that tanked anyways so there's nothing we could have done.
No he didn't. He's said he'll play anywheres, and that he thinks it's stupid for players to hold out against playing on a certain team (Lindros, Erixon, etc) and that it's a privilege to be drafted regardless.

Here's his actual quote:
If an NHL team tanks to try to get you, would that impress you?
Quote:
If a team is tanking to get me then no, I do not want to play on that team. If you’re tanking to get a higher draft pick, you really shouldn’t be playing hockey. But I don’t think anyone is tanking to draft me.
Never heard he wouldnt play for a tanking team, but I do remember an interview where he was asked if it was an honor to have teams falling on their faces intentionally to increase their odds of drafting him.. His reply was pretty clear that he didn't respect that model and I believe he mentioned that wasn't the type of team he was looking for.
