Here's hoping Lowe joins the press conference.

Greg Wyshynski @wyshynski
MacTavish on Eakins, Dec. 5: “He’s evolving as a coach.” Obviously the next evolution for NHL coaches is unemployment.

@wyshynski EAKINS has evolved!
EAKINS uses substandard goaltending!
It's not very effective...

Professionally, it's a pretty ###### move. Could have waited until after Christmas. But then again, this is the organization that fired their previous coach over Skype, so professionalism hasn't ever really been on their 'to do' list.

i would hope that someone would ask MacT at the presser

"You were fired seasons ago as Head Coach of the Oilers. What makes you qualified this time to step into the role again?

Nelson will be the head coach by season's end I'm sure.

Too bad, the guy seems nice enough and a good coach. The Oilers will ruin him for sure.

I can just imagine this firing happening over Skype, Mac-T trying to let Eakins down easy, Eakin's swearing a blue streak at the incompetence of Mac-T. Mac-T crumpling paper and telling Eakins that he can't hear him. Eakins reminding Mac-T about how Skype works. A conference call window with Lowe popping up at random times during the conversation so he can intelligently interject with "Like a Vipa".

If it wasn't before Mac-T's a%% is heavily on the line, I'm betting that this isn't Mac-T's decision, this is Lowe's and Katz decisions to distract the fans from their crummy performances by firing the only non member of the Old Boys Club.

People are already debating which veteran coach is going to go to Edmonton. The likely answer is that most of the veteran coaches aren't going to go to Edmonton under this management group.

I thought they hired Ramsey as their associate coach who could take over if Eakin's failed. I'm betting that he's feeling pretty betrayed right now.

Add on, if the core of that room isn't feeling empowered after the franchise chose to cast off another coach instead of making changes to the Taylor and friends club, I'd be surprised. What makes Mac-T think that anyone's going to listen to him.

Its a different profession. Firing him before Christmas was the nicest thing they possibly could do.

Its not like his kids wont get presents or anything, he still gets paid for 2.5 more YEARS! He just doesnt have to go into work anymore. He gets to spend more time with his family.

And he doesn't have to live in Edmonton because, rumour has it, Edmonton is no good.

Sportsnet Stats @SNstats
Dallas Eakins' .381 points % is the worst in among any #Oilers coach with at least 100 games behind the bench.

Don't know why they fired Eakins. He was 'visibly' the best coach in the league. That hair! Oilers are no good.
