Unfair. Visually he was improving.

The interim guy will be interesting. They are at the bottom, so any improvement in their record will make him look like a hero. So hopefully it's a no good coach (I could see Messier being the guy) who wins like 4 games and then gets signed to a 5 year deal.

well to be fair, Burke did fire Feaster and Weisbrod right before Christmas too.

What a disaster. Not only do players not want to go there, I wonder how long before coaches don't want to either?

Talk about all around career killers.

never like to see a guy fired, this is probably best for Eakins career to get away from the gong show and maybe build himself back up again in the AHL

on the Oilers side

Please hire Messier, go with most rings available dont look at things like ability and experience

Instead of firing Lowe, he will be demoted to head coach.

Well played Katz.

In a way, I feel bad for the guy. Ya he's a terrible coach but he was also given nothing to work with. He sat Draisaitl the other game and played Pitlick likely to send a message to management that they needed a centre. Yes this is partially Eakins fault but I would say management gave him nothing to succeed. It was only a matter of time before they were this bad.

As a Flames fan and comedy lover I am disappointed. But as a human with a working brain I can't believe it took this long.

Had to happen. Not that it really solves anything, but you can't just lose and lose and expect fans to keep showing up.

Is he done in the NHL? I guess he could get an assistant job but he doesn't look like a guy with a personality that will mesh with a lot of experience head coaches. I expect he will have to rebuilt his reputation in the AHL.

In all seriousness, I wonder if Todd Nelson who is head coach of the OKC barons gets promoted to Head Coach.

The Barons have done very well in the AHL this year and had a 7 or 8 game win streak in the last couple weeks. Their AHL team is quite well run and successful despite being affiliated with so much no good.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Eakins has the remainder of this season, plus two more remaining on contracts. Sounds like MacTavish may return to bench on interim basis.
