So on one hand we have a claim of consent, with a PR firm and an enormous lawsuit looking to characterize this as vengence on the basis of sexual preferences.
On the other we have anonymous reports of non-consensual violence including the hitting and choking of women until they submitted to his advances.

My 74 year old mom listens to his show. She will call me up the next day to ask me if I like The Flaming Lips. Cool mom.
Seems to me more than a few entitled celebrities behave as alleged here.

What makes you think I don't understand what "two consenting adults" means?
I'll say it again: even if someone consents to you causing them pain or humiliation, if you get off on subjecting them to it, not just for their benefit, but because you like causing pain or humiliation to other people, you are a scumbag.
If you still think I'm misunderstanding, please post more than a glib, one line response.

I'm guessing, if true, that quite a few more girls will come forward now that this is in the public eye.

That makes it sound a little more unclear to me. It seems like there is a pattern of behavior that most are going to find creepy, but is he actually going to get charged with anything?
Jian's going to be in some hot water needless to say but I think the CBC could be in trouble too if he doesn't get convicted of anything....
In house legal council tend to be generalists imo who are just OK at most stuff but not great at anything and you'd hope they went out to some sort of specialist in labor law because 50 mil of taxpayer money for this crap would be ridiculous and with this limited info it sounds like pretty shaky ground. Wonder why they wouldn't have just kept him on leave and waited.
|
I would assume they'll just pay him out to the end of his contract, unless they have a morality clause, it's fairly easy for them to argue the situation makes his retaining a broadcast role impossible. It's a business where they fire people for getting low ratings.

If she did respond to his advances the way she claims, then Ghomeshi must be the biggest idiot on the planet to not pick up on it.

I read the article fairly quickly and didn't pay attention to every detail that may have included more incriminating material, but you can see why CBC cut him loose based on this?? Because he was acting like a cheeseball on a date, trying to get laid? Certainly he might deserving of creep warning to this woman's friends, but I am not sure it factors in here at all.

My guess is they have some 'in house' complaints from subordinates, researchers etc, don't even have to be that inappropriate, just not something a manager can do at work.

BTW, sexual predators don't care about how a woman responds to his advances.

Yeah that woman comes off poorly for sure, someone posted a link to this article elsewhere discussing her blog post:
http://lawyerbuchanan.blogspot.ca/20...t-shaming.html
That said I don't think he is absolved because of that. Some of his other behavior certainly seems a lot more extreme - not a legal expert and I wouldn't wager to guess how it will turn out, but from the perspective of the CBC, effectively being responsible for outing this information, you kind of wonder why they put themselves in this spot? Why not just keep him on suspension and allow the women to go public and then react based on whether or not the accusions are substantiated. In effect it seems like they've attempted to predict how the court is going to rule with some pretty high stakes for a cash strapped organization. Unless as somebody pointed out Jian had a morality clause and they had the legal right to fire him based on his creepiness.
Edit - yeah agree with 138... the sexual harassment at work would do it.

Of course it isn't. And what you do under your roof is your business. But as a prominent figure on a public broadcaster, do you not think of your reputation and how the public perceives you? Between the blog post and the various tweets from people such as Jann Arden, it doesn't help his position. If you want to do it, knock yourself out. Maybe just don't do it in front of a camera.

The one that should have gotten him fired basically instantly is saying he wanted to hate #### her to one of the employees on his show. There should be a record of that report. It's disappointing there was no action sooner.

They haven't said they've fired him, just that the relationship has come to an end, my guess is he continues to get paid till the end of what ever contract they have, I doubt he has a case for a lawsuit, and sometime in the next few months drops it. If all the allegations come to nothing he might argue they have damaged his professional reputation, but even that's going to be tough.

No, what post number is it on though?
Read his Facebook statement, this blog about the date, and skimmed the rest of the thread.
Certainly there may be other articles that are worse- don't think this blog is incriminating by itself though... combining it with other articles may paint a different picture.
