So if both parties get pleasure from being the recipent of pain, how exactly is it supposed to work if no one causes said pain?
A person can cause pain to themselves. Or, I suppose, you could cause pain to another out of purely a desire to help them meet their needs. But if causing someone pain gets you off, you just might be a scumbag.

No, there's lots of stuff outside of plain vanilla sax that's perfectly understandable, and which I've happily practiced. But it's a fundamental aspect of life to avoid aversive stimuli. Pain can, at times, be something that's healthy to tolerate if the ends justify it, but to actually get pleasure from the infliction of pain and seek it out for that purpose is a "wiring problem".
The rumors are out there. I don't see how mentioning that they exist constitutes "completely judged him and his character".
It was more from the other thread when he said, and I paraphrase, "as the father of a daughter in her twenties I warn her to stay away from scumbags like these".
I was disgusted by the notion that because Gomeshi was into rough sex and BDSM that he was a scumbag.
I only do missionary. With a bed sheet separating me and my partner, and with a strategically cut hole to allow only contact to the absolutely required parts.
Then afterwards I shower while crying. Out of shame.

I don't think you understand what " two consenting adults" means.

Im no PR expert, but I would think Ghomeshi getting in front of this and releasing this very detailed statement, from his perspective, is a good move.
Yep. His statement was the first I heard of any of this, and it definitely coloured my initial view of things. Reading around Twitter though, the indication seems to be that Jann Arden's comments weren't just for attention, but seems to be a general opinion that Ghomeshi is quite possibly an abusive creep. Hope we eventually get the truth out of all this.

I make no apologies for thinking a guy a couple of years younger than me picking up twenty year olds is a ###### bag, mostly because every guy I ever met in his fourties who shags girls in their twenties is always a ######bag.
You have nothing in common with a 26 year old in your late forties, assuming you're in any way normally developed, I'm not saying it's evil, just pathetic, a guy I play soccer with does this, mid forties, bought a Harley and a porsche, dates girls a few years older than his daughter that he picks up on POF, it's just sad, he's lonely, his kids no longer talk to him, he wears ed hardy t shirts and generally doesn't want to admit that he's middle aged.

First thing that stuck out to me, is who does he think he is suing for $50M, especially in Canada? While CBC has effed up many times more recently, this guys while somewhat liked in interviewing circles, is totally overvaluing his worth to sue for that much.
Secondly, I always wondered who are those weirdos who do the gimp outfits and that weird stuff, and the face has now a combination of David Carradine and Jian Ghomeshi. Eww.
Wow, this is crazy. Q and This American Life are the only podcasts I listen to (other than CP radio). I'm a big fan of Jian's interviews.
One thing I've noticed about Jian, he is very private about his personal life. It is very rare he says anything about what he does away from the studio. That is not the norm in radio, you often hear hosts tell little stories and anecdotes from their personal lives. Something that always stood out about him. Was he hiding something? Just a private person? Or a pro who didn't want it to be all about him? I had always assumed the latter, now thinking there is more to it.
We'll have to see where this goes but I'm guessing the CBC did their due diligence before terminating him.
Which sucks because Q is not the same without him. (no offense to Piya Chatipadi or whatever her name is)

I can see why he'd want to keep quiet, the way people would react. I don't think being employed by a public broadcaster gives us the right to know about his sex life.
