Really, there can't be many. It's not a common vehicle these days.
Probably, but by 'not many', you mean 'many hundreds' instead of many thousands.

This seems like it's getting close to life or death. It would probably take days or weeks to locate every early 90s green ford long box.

Yeah I guess it makes sense, I called it in. Wish I got more info for them.

Good man. I really hope that your info helps them get the family back together safe and sound. This whole story just breaks my heart.

Why do you think this isn't already happening? I'm sure the professionals are all over the investigation.

Can you see the plate in that photo? I can't see anything. It could be from any province (or state), really. Odds are probably AB but who knows.

That truck could be anywhere, that was 4 days ago now, I hope they have a lot more to go on.

I think you underestimate the confidence some of the members on this forum have of the police.

Whether 'professionals' are doing so or not, all I know is if I were the police that's what I'd be doing. If they can spare the manpower to interview all 2-300 people that attended the estate sale then they can sift through a few hundred vehicle records in hopes of finding a match. Also, coming out and telling the public that they are doing so may bring enough heat to the individual (if they are a local) to come forward with information if they do know something.

This is a pretty desperate situation, and they're probably going to have to go that length in order to turn up anything, as time consuming and pointless as it may seem to some. You never know, you may just get lucky. Maybe you find a potential vehicle owner with ties to the grandfather's workplace, the family, etc. Every day that goes by just makes the situation that much more grave.. I think you take whatever chances you can.

Those trucks are becoming increasingly uncommon. A regular cab, long box, green mid 90's ford with that pinstripe pattern could be one of only a couple hundred in Alberta. I would bet 95% of similar trucks have gone to the scrap heap by now.

Someone will spot that truck, I have no doubt about it. If you saw one matching that description, there is a very high likelihood it is the exact one they are looking for. I am keeping my eyes peeled right now when I am on the road.

Saw a post on the ctv news site. The police should look at the intersection cameras. Good idea. Even just seeing the vehicle on one would at least give a direction of travel.

The problem with this, potentially, is that they were not recording at that time. Intersection cams are not always recording so they really have to cross their fingers.

The intersection cameras aren't real cameras. They are used for detecting cars to change the lights. I asked the city traffic management centre when they had the YYC open houses and they told me they have capability to record and save video as well as detect traffic for cars, but are ONLY used for car detection. Too bad as if they recorded video they could help determine what happened for traffic accidents and such.

Isn't there live cams that show live traffic with possible recording included? Anyway, there has to be some sort of traffic recording out there, and if there isn't, why not. Gas stations have it.

Because gas stations have a reason to have it, from a cost-benefit perspective.

Actual investigations aren't an A&E TV show.

Huge police presence with tactical unit showing up just outside of Airdrie at an acreage. Might be a great example of why if you think you see something/someone the police are looking for it's worth the time to call the non-emerg (403) 266-1234 line and report it and let the police sort out whether it's helpful or not.
