The GMC's have the bumper that wraps around the corner, where as the Fords were a straight bumper.
The bodies were very similar in that era, and the bumper could have easily been replaced, I'm sure the police have much better identification methods than I. That's just my thought.

The Ford did not have a straight bumper in the late 80's. Stick to your day job.

It is tough to tell because the image is low quality but it looks like the truck has side view mirrors that are a single piece (like all the vehicles now-a-days) which would make the truck a 92 through 96 model. Pre-92 they used those mirrors which were attached on a triangular metal piece.

Police confirm a "violent crime" occurred but are saying it's still a missing persons investigation and not a homicide investigation. Not sure what to make of that.

I would definately say 92-96 Green Ford F-150, standard cab, long box.

That definitely looks like a Ford to me, not a Chevy. Fords have those deep line grooves down the side.
My guess, early/mid 90s F150..similar to this.

1992 Ford F150 from f150forum.com, looks like a match to the make and model:

That truck is 100% a Ford. I believe 89-95. As those were the years they had the wrap around headlight in the front. Th boxy comparable Chevs and Dodge's of that vintage did not have any sort of wraparound headlight.

My bad, you are correct, Ford realized how much nicer the GMC's looked in 1987, and made the design change.

Early 70's GMC's had the upright tail lights. Maybe the truck in the pic is not this old, but from the grainy pic this was the first style that came to mind, especially with the big box.
As an aside, gut wrenching.
Also, I know these "living estate" sales are more popular these days, but opening your doors to hundreds of complete strangers into the house you're still living in, is just not a great idea. You're bound to get some unstable people or shady people looking for crimes of opportunity, as some of the items at these things are of decent quality and price, not just garage sale junk.
Show up with 20 minutes left in the all weekend sale, case out what hasn't been sold and show up the next day thinking someone is not home..or, not caring if someone is). Depending on how messed up said person may be about the situation, things escalate quickly and with a little kid caught in the middle, the grandparents do whatever they need to to protect the child (maybe even getting hurt in the process). Making some assumptions here, but hopefully sorted out soon.

A violent crime happened at the last place a missing five-year-old boy and his grandparents were seen, Calgary police said Friday
“We remain hopeful that we will find them alive," said Andrus, who is with the Calgary Police Service's homicide unit.
“But based on the evidence, I would say someone would be in medical distress."
Andrus said they are not able to say how many people may be in medical distress, but said they have "sent the exhibits away," and are awaiting results.

Well, sadly appears there may be more to this.
First hand: I can confirm the grandpa's company, Winter Petroleum Ltd., "went under" three weeks ago after trying to recover from financial troubles over the past year. They were ordered to shut down all their operations and abandon all their wells by July 1 as they owed an unknown amount of money to the government and other petroleum and service companies. Staff were not given any notice of this happening so weren't aware they were basically out of a job without pay or compensation.
Police have been contacted and are aware of this; (now ex) employees, as well as landowners where their operations were stationed are being investigated, among other leads.
Second hand: Independent I can also say the first officers to enter the house immediately called for assistance and investigators (sorry, don't know correct terminology), due to the amount of blood and also damage inside. It is feared the grandpa is in life threatening distress, an his wife and grandson were "wrong place wrong time" although that's just speculation based on the previous paragraph. Basically, someone bled a lot and there was damage to the property.
Another prominent poster is able to confirm the first paragraph if he/she chooses. Mod can confirm the second with me, if they choose.
Let's find that truck. Maybe the above has NOTHING to do with anything. I feel sick to my stomach and hope I got poor info, though paragraph one is first hand.

United just posted some information which I also saw online and heard accounts off. I believe Alvin also had an oil company that went belly up in around 2008 or 2009 (I think it was Bluesky Oil and Gas Corp or something like that.)
There was an early article I read that stated they sold their home last year for $705,000. They continued to live in the home under lease. This seemed odd to me because people wouldn't generally sell their home well in advance especially in a hot housing market like Calgary unless they really needed the money. $705,000 also seems pretty cheap for the area especially considering they are half a block from the park and I believe the home is a 50 foot lot (very valuable.)
I also looked at the Kijiji ads that were posted for some of their items and the things did not look very attractive. A Globe and Mail article ( http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...ticle19463983/) has a quote from a neighbour saying "the items were dated and she did not see anything that looked very valuable."
The few bits of information that are floating around were starting to piece together in my mind that this disappearance could be financially related in some manner.

I agree with you CS, there are times when a little bit of grace and respect are in order, even on an anonymous message board. I really hope there is a break soon and the parents and family can start healing.

Well, since I have been called out....
I haven't posted anything since I have nothing to add to the conversation. I'm not into wild speculation nor do I have any details that are not already known. I agree with dissentowner ... the whole first page turned into a feces throwing contest and I just wanted to let sleeping dogs lie and let the thread continue as it had gotten back on track.
But when it comes to real life crime threads there is almost always an element of conjecture. From the Boston Marathon bombings to the recent events in Moncton, people were speculating. And I think how much conjecture there is has to be weighed against the potential to harm people close to the situation. And I admit I was barely awake when I wrote that post and CP isn't the only forum I post on and stupidly didn't immediately put two and two together that yes it was likely that a family member could be reading it. But by the time that was pointed out, the thread has progressed so I thought it better left alone. But since I was called out again for it pages later, I want to make it clear - when it is likely that the family could well be reading a thread, discretion is a virtue.

5-year-old, grandparents disappear from Calgary home
Odds don't matter, you call the CPS and let them decide if it's pertinent. This is too important to waffle about.

That twitter pic looked like the wheel wells were pretty rusty. Can't really make much of the rest of the paint.

Yeah I'd call the non-emerg line and tell them. That photo *just* came out, so who knows if the person (suspect?) driving it will now stop driving it as soon as they know it's been published and people are looking for it.

Can't Alberta motors/registrars in town narrow down a list of owners with green Fords in the approximate year range?
Really, there can't be many. It's not a common vehicle these days.
