I'd call it a wash. What about Yakabov for G Reinhart

If I were Burke I'd call them and tell them they can have whoever they want minus Monahan, Gaudreau, Brodie from our roster for that pick.

Yeah, seriously... If the Islanders were smart, they would trade their 1st for someone's 2015's 1st and a second rounder for this year's draft.

I'd do:
Hudler, Backlund, one of our 2nds
If that's what it took. I'm a big Backlund fan, but you have to pay to get high 1sts, and I could see the Isles taking interest in Backlund who could help them defensively. Backs has been great here, but we need top end skill, and Backs won't provide those kinds of numbers in his career. Hudler was our top point producer and can be a playmaker for their second line while still in his prime.
Meanwhile, we draft Dal Colle and Bennett/Draisaitl and we've got the building blocks of a legitimate top 6 for the future.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Poirier
Baertschi - Bennett/Draisaitl - Dal Colle
Other potentials: Klimchuk, Colborne, Granlund, Ferland.

I really hope no Reinhart ends up in Edmonton ... neither Sam nor Griffin. That would really suck.

The offer was fine. Hudler and Backlund plus a second rounder is nothing to sneeze at. It's not gonna light the world on fire but damn, I honestly think it'd be considered.

Also it's 5th overall in a so-so draft, not 1st/2nd.
The price is still high, but not E. Kane high, I don't think. Hudler/Backs/2nd is fair and will absolutely help the Isles now.

I could see something like Yakupov for the 5th

Yakupov isn't immediate help. Honestly, Yakupov probably isn't even future help.

If there is one organization that could out-stupid Edmonton though, its the Islanders. If the Oilers could do that, they should take it and run before the Islanders changed their mind.

Would you take Frans Nielson, Josh Bailey and a 2nd for our pick?

Yeah, if I'm the Oilers and could get a do-over with Dal Colle instead of Yakupov ... I'd do that trade.

They're not going to move the 5th overall pick for a 30 year old winger (good player but still) and a #3/fringe 2nd line center. We'd definitely have to include Brodie.

When you're seeking immediate help, maybe you would.
We're not in that position, so we'd view it differently.

Just reading the last few posts...
Backlund + Hudler + is not even close
But the Oilers would trade their pick (a higher pick) for G Reinhart.
Someone else thinks it would take Gio + (the chances of the #5 pick becoming as valuable as Gio would be about 20% IMO)
And finally Kane +... Kane is a consistent 30 goal scorer, power forward with blazing speed. And it would have to be Kane PLUS?
If the #5 pick turned into a Gio or a Kane, that would be a home run.
If the #5 pick turned into Backlund, that would be ok (not the end of the world). If the #5 pick turned into Backlund + Hudler + a pick, that would be a home run.
The amount that fans over-value picks is truly amazing

That's immediate help in the same way the return for Phaneuf was. If they trade this pick and without a selection next year their core hardly changes. Getting some guys to make them a bubble team isn't going to entice Tavares to stay 3 years from now if he can see there's no growth and that they've done little in his time there. I'm pretty sure they're thinking more along the lines of Yakupov or E. Kane - a player in his prime or entering it that's going to play on the first line.

Agreed. Not only that, the majority of the time they undervalue picks and want to trade like 2 2nd rounders and a prospect and active player for a 5th pick...
I don't think anyone has a clue cept like 5 people. Keep all picks and assets and raise their value some more(hopefully) so you can trade for 1-2 pick next year for some SUPER talent, or to fill holes.

I'd offer them Hudler + Wideman + 2nd for 5th overall + salary dump (if necessary). I think that fits the bill pretty well as far as "immediate help".
