Wasn't part of his plan to get younger and bigger players? Seems like he is sticking to it.

Very good pickup! Wouldn't be surprised if this was setup earlier, but Feaster had to unload Jackman first.

I think having a young enforcer type 'grow up' with the rest of the stars on this team will be a good thing. At the very least, we will probably freak out a little less when Sven is benched for a 24 yr old instead of Jackman.

Not a big deal- but nothing wrong with it.

That's quite outstanding, and I would say Monahan was also the BPA. If it turns out that the Flames got the BPA with three picks in a row, major kudos would be due.

Perhaps not superstar criteria, but I'd take them over an AHL enforcer.
So what your saying is Feaster failed us by not landing Dustin Byfuglien straight up for Jackman.

For all the people bitching about a sixth round pick, consider that we do have a 50 contract limit and invariably we cannot sign every draft pick. Some go unsigned and they typically are in later rounds. No big loss for an enforcer that may be able to fill a need when McGrattan is done.

6 players of the last 10-15 drafts which would be 6 players out of 600-900 picks made. Less than a 1% chance the flames get a legit star with that pick.

Nope, that's actually not what he's saying at all. His argument is that a 6th round pick, if used, could have turned into a player similar to the ones he listed to show the value of a late round pick.

Having said that, I don't see an issue with this move.

I like this move, Grats isn't going to be here forever and may play the rest of the year and next year before he retires. This gives us a young, mean, tougher guy in the minors to protect the skilled guys in the AHL and move up to the NHL when Grats is gone.

A younger 24 year old Jackman. Weisbrod probably has some history with MacDermid with the Bruins. Made his reputation throwing down with the Providence Bruins.

Flames want size, youth, toughness, so this move although mediocre, is an improvement from where we were last week with Jackman.

I like that the Flames are not being static but being progressively fluid with moving out players that are post apex or not working out.

What message does this send to other players... if you start to stagnate the organization will move you to the AHL, press box or another team.

Get players who want to be here, are productive and hold potential. Sitting on your duff as an organization will not get you anywhere IMO.That includes Scrooge McDucking low draft picks.

So are the Flames stronger now that we have Smid and McDermid? I think so.

He is. Has a brother who's been signed by LA (playing in the OHL)

That name is the closest we'll ever get back to Lanny MacDonald, so enjoy it while you can.

so out of 300 picks there have been 6 or so good players and that is why people are mad we gave up a 6th (not to mention the fact we gained a 6th yesterday)

bigger and younger is the plan FYI

I thought we acquired Lane McDonald from Hartford at one point.

My bad: We drafted Lane MacDonald and traded him to Hartford as part of the Dana Murzyn trade in January 88:

To Calgary:
Dana Murzyn
Shane Churla

To Hartford:
Neil Sheehy
Carey Wilson
rights to Lane MacDonald

Humorous how people manage to find just about anything to complain about, even the most minor of moves.

These are the type of trades where I go "meh". Not even worth getting happy or upset about.

I remember that trade, I also remember coming home from school and Ed Whalen on channels 2 & 7 sports announcing Lanny McDonald was not traded, but a prospect with a similar name. I guess all day he was getting calls from irritate fans upset that Lanny was traded by the Flames.
