Will be interesting. Peplinski was good when on CBC only because I am sure it drove that he drove Oiler fans batty when he was the one doing Flames/Oilers games and Flames/Oilers playoff series in 1991.

Wasn't a huge fan of Rogers, though he did call out the Flames when they played poorly. However, turning the radio on after getting back into the car from the game, it was either the Flames were "fantastic" if they won, or " had work to do", if they lost....when it usually wasn't so black and white, it drove me nuts.

That said, I'm not as high on Maher either, and I am not sure how people think that syncing him to the TV broadcast would be an upgrade (let's forget the terrible chaos that is Kerr for a moment). Numerous times I've done this to get away from Kerr....but a quiet and subdued comments he and Rogers are chatting about, or "Flames retreating into their own zone" turns into a " Flames breakaway!!" in a matter of 2 seconds somehow, being well behind the play.

Anyways, if Rogers' perceived critical analysis (previously or forthcoming) of the team has any merit in that it has KK pushing him out the door, then one can only imagine how much of a pushover the replacement will be....towing the company line as much as Kerr currently does on TV.

I certainly understand the desire to have former players as there needs to be a level of insight, not just commentary.

However, I tend to prefer ex-coaches to ex-players. LOVE Crispy (and he would be my first choice, as unlikely as it is) and I enjoy the insights from MacT, Keenan, and other coaches.

I remember Bobby Hull calling the Nordiques the Nor Dicks.

Big loss for the Flames. He is probably my favourite colour guy. Worked well with Peter, was extremely knowledgable, and was not afraid to speak his mind.

I'll say I'm hoping for either Peplinski or Warrener.

Another vote for Loubo. Warrener is entertaining, but he's way too slow to be a good colour guy. Listening some mornings on the Fan, I wish someone was there to prod him with a stick so he gets his words out faster.

No to Peplinski.

The guy just never shut up in his CBC days. They would seriously lose entire whistle to whistle play by play because of him telling some lame story about what city had the best roast beef sandwiches or something.

Macoun could do a good job of it, I think. Does he have a day job around town, or does he just occupy his time with Flames Alumni events?

Just a quick question - why does Maher not work on TV? Dude would kill it for Sportsnet as their commentator.

There is a difference between radio and TV PBP. Peter is much more descriptive as he obviously has to paint a mental picture for the radio audience. TV Broadcasters can call a much looser game.

I am not sure after all the time Peter has put into radio and the habits he has learned along the way that it would lend well to a Television broadcast.

Fair enough. However, there's many times where I used to mute the TV and put on Peter Maher instead. It's a much more enjoyable experience.

I wish (as I do pretty much everytime I turn on the Fan in the morning) that Mike Richards was still in town. Not for the colour job, but for the bit on auditions that you know he would have on the show this morning. Vijay, Miikka, Cuthbert, Rome, Coley....everybody would have wanted a piece of this job...

As to actual replacements, as has been mentioned, it's Rogers, so it'll be whoever they can get to do the job for nothing. Krahn is likely the best of the choices who will be willing to take the $9.85/hr Rogers will offer.
