Not that I'm sold on having him in Edmonton (sideshow.....), but I don't think your reasons not to do it hold any water.

Using up a roster spot? Every team carries two goalies - who else would this spot be used on but a 2nd goalie.....

Cap space? History has shown that players can be had for a pretty reasonable cap hit post-buyout as they're still getting paid by their previous team - they can make a hockey decision rather than a straight paycheque decision.

That being said, still not sure he's the right fit in Edm - I'll reserve judgment.

The point is that each team gets 23 roster spots and X amount of cap space. I would be happy to see the Oilers use some of theirs on Bryz because I don't think he gets them closer to being competitive.

That 2nd goalie spot could be used for a better goalie (as opposed to him), so as I said, I am all for it

Yes but before a player is bought out he must clear unconditional waivers first. So tomorrow at noon we should see players put on waivers for the purpose of buyouts.

Also the buyout period ends on July 4th... therefore any players that need to be bought out need to be put on waivers by noon ET July 3rd.

Wonder if NJD would be a good fit, if the money was small (ish). Run a 1a/1b tandem with Marty and provide a stop gap for a couple seasons once Marty retires and the Devils wait for the next one to emerge.

Just a thought.

Wait, Bryzgalov's agent is Rich Winter? I can see the Edmonton Sun headline now when Bryz signs there:

"Winter is Coming"
