I understand about the potential fail for adding former Canucks, but would anyone consider acquiring Booth on a significantly reduced, post-buyout deal? He's got decent size, can play in the top-six, and is in the right age-bracket. There are definitely some injury concerns, but if the Flames are looking to filling out the roster while they add players through the draft, I think that he could potentially be a positive addition on a 2–3 year deal @ $2.0 m.

I don't know a lot about him. Can anyone comment?

Feaster needs incriminating photos to pull this off

I think Sutter had some from SJ but none with anyone from Toronto

Why is in the article.

Living in Vancouver, the fans here have really soured on him. They were so happy with him when he came - big body with speed and skill. His 'compete level' wasn't there (and that's saying something on this version of the Canucks team). He seems to care more about his hunting than his hockey. Apparently he was already back home (forget where he calls home) before the playoffs even ended, which isn't the same as rehabbing with team doctors. I would rather we ice some AHLers than sign him for more than 1 year.

It seems that almost everyone that comes out of FLA seems to have this weird headspace where they can't bring it to the 'next level'.

Booth, something happened to him after his latest concussion. He used drive the net hard and do the power forward things really well, then he turned into a floater and perimeter shooter. When he went to Vancouver I really thought they got something that would push them over the top. But that didn't work.

I guess I would take a pass on him, he isn't that 60 point guy from 08-09 anymore.

Not saying i want Booth, but realistically he is the type of player that Feaster could probably get. Booth will be bought out and looking for a spot where he can get top 6 minutes and re-establish himself. Flames need a big RW and Booth will come cheap.

My guess is that teams will offer him one year deals, and if Feaster wants him he will have to add a 2nd year. Feaster can also sell him on a place to find his game again, ie Tanguay, Olli, Hannan ect.

How is Brad Boyes these days. I havent watched the Pens Isles series but he might be a better option than Booth and Cap Geek claims hes UFA. NM thought Booth was a RW. Although our RW is pretty weak and could use a UFA either way.

Would rather Cammy for Kejci instead- Boston has lots of centers and Stastny looks worse all the time- super bad contract.

I think everyone here would. However Boston would be crazy to do that, though if we could get Stastny for cheap I'd welcome it. See what he can do with an actual coach and system.

Flame away!

Under no circumstance should the flames trade away their 2014 first round pick. I have said before that i think it will be a top 3 pick. That was me being nice. I think unless they lose the draft lottery it will be #1.

Neither Horton or Clowe will want to come to Calgary. They will get big bucks from a team that has a better chance of making the playoffs.

Doubt you could even get a 2nd round pick for Tanguay let alone a 3rd also.

Sarich could have been had at the trade deadline and nobody wanted him. I doubt they want him for a 4th in the summer. Maybe next trade deadline.

Not sure why we would want Carlo Colaiacovo? Wasn't he hurt most of the season, just like he has been for his whole career.

I don't see the Flames pulling off any significant moves in FA, even though I could easily picture this incompetent management group trying to buy their way back into the playoffs. In terms of attractiveness to players the Flames have to be right at the bottom of the food chain: poor present and pretty bleak future. Very few players would willingly walk into such a situation if they have other alternatives.

And for God's sake do not trade that 2014 1st unless you want Feaster and the Flames to become even more of a laughing stock.

What motivation does TB have to make that deal? Seems bad for them. Fantasy IMO.

Terrible deal for Boston. Zero chance they'd be interested in anything like that. Wet dream IMO.

I'd love that deal if it happened. Not sure Tanguay is tradeable or what his value is.

Not convinced Johansson will be better than Backlund long term. I'd stick with what we know and not dump Butler for nothing.

Doesn't really improve us long term unless we re-sign Colaiacovo. Stempniak is one of our best leaders up front IMO. I'd deal him if we're getting something nice for the future but I don't really see the point of this deal.

Don't see why any big name UFA's would sign here at the point we're at in our franchise cycle. Why wouldn't Horton, Clowe or Murray go to a playoff team?

Love it if we landed Clowe. We desperately need some size and strength up front. Horton would be a good fit. Murray doesn't really make sense long term.

Not really sure what the Flames will do in the UFA market this year, should be interesting.

Why would you have an issue trading next years Top 3 pick for a Top 3 in this draft, which is supposed to be better??? It seems like a no brainer to me to get a better prospect, earlier!!

Giving up another 1st might be a bit steep to make the deal though, but I don't see why a deal like this can't be good, in principle

Tampa Bay would not do that deal. Too much risk. Could be 15 and 22 for 3 (very unlikely I know, but why risk it).

I saw 2014 first and i flipped. I did not notice that we were keeping the 6th overall. I still think the 2014 is the 1st overall pick, unless the flames lose the draft lottery. It would be a tough decission. Droin and Monahan and pitt pick or Monahan/Lindholm, St louis pick, Pitt pick and Reinhart/Ekblad. Think i would rather have the latter.

I just don't see why the Flames pick is going to be a lock to be first overall. This is a franchsie that has never drafted in the top 5 even when they tried to tank they couldn't do it. I would trade the 30th and our 2014 pick if it gets us one of the big 3. I think any of the big 3 this year would be head and shoulders above any of the picks in 2014 except maybe Ekblad.

I'm arguing CGY's perspective, as that was the other poster's issue.

One thing to keep in mind when talking about trading next year's pick for a top 3 pick this year is the impact it could possible have on the players involved, like the pieces of the Kessel deal. I can't imagine it's good for a player's development or mental game to always be compared to the 'what if' scenario like Kessel is constantly compared to Seguin and now somewhat to Hamilton.
