Yeah, no. Texas is approximately 171.9 million acres by my math, not even close.

There is a playground that is the closest to it, right across the street!

I think the stat is the entire earth's population could live in Texas covering every square inch of it and there was an allotted sq/ft for each person or something like that.

He said he did the calculations, and the entire world could fit in Texas if each person were alloted the same average square feet of living space as in New York City.

128 square yards per person or 107 m squared. If the math is sound and I'm in entertainment sooooo...

Haha you said this once in a previous thread and got corrected. You really gotta get this tidbit out of your head. Cause for some reason it seems to be firmly planted in your head.
Way Way WAYYYY WAYYYYYYY off.
Like not even close to close to nearby to beside the ballpark.
Like really really far off.
Sounds like it was probably passed on by some ignorant Texan. For some reason they like to brag about this size of it.
Just ask them if they can find Quebec on the map. Far FAR larger. Not that it really matters

Yet somehow this is taking a back seat to Boston.

Which seems weird when Alaska is substantially larger than Texas.

Heheh yeah, but you don't hear Alaskans claiming everything is bigger in Alaska.
Though I've heard you can see Russia from there...

Shouldn't be surprising. As terrible of a tragedy this avoidable accident was, it's not going to compare to a terrorist attack that resulted in a shootout, police killed and a manhunt that shut down an entire town.

Why is that surprising? One is a targeted attack and one is a tragic accident. People can accept that tragic accidents, even at a large scale, will occur in life. It's much more difficult to process the idea of people targeting us for death and maiming as we simply go about our daily lives.

Not to mention that the Boston story is still developing at a fast rate. There are only three things left in this story: the final casualty count, the lawsuits and the inquiry that finds cause.

80 homes, the nursing home, the plant itself. I wouldn't be surprised if the death total is easily over 100. Tragic story.
At this time people are are being reported as simply missing.

Yup. At this point, reported dead + reported missing = actually dead. And that will be a little over 70 at this point. In the case of the missing firefighters, I'm not thinking it likely they even find bodies to bury.

It must have roots! I don't remember mentioning it before, but I probably could have had a few pops in me the last time.
The loss in this town is terrible and astronomically short sighted...

Yeah just having some fun with you, I was having some serious deja vu there. Your quote was basically verbatim.
Back to the topic, Texas is known for it's lax business regs. The whole conservative cowboy deal. There's no reason why a fertilizer plant should be that close to those residential type buildings.
