Well at least you still have your young and exciting Oilers team to cheer for Stryker Steve. Awesome goal cellys.

Here's how this is going to go.
Playoff teams start putting in their backups against us to give the starter a night off. We either tie them, or get a W, giving everyone false hope. This is where our "run" starts.
Teams figure this out, start playing their starter, and consequently stomp us. That or teams we are battling with kick our ass when we play them. Run is over.
We finish between 10th and 12th.
What year is this again?

How can Flames fans even make fun of the Oilers at this point? We are basically tied in the standings, and the Flames have allowed 10 more goals for crying out loud.

Flames fans have at best 4 more weeks to make fun of the Oilers, they should be allowed those 4 weeks.

We can always make fun of the Oilers. We were predicted to be this bad, they were predicted to be great with all of the Canadian media fawning over them.

When we do and our team is as bad or worse, it makes the Flames fanbase look really stupid.

If both teams are missing the playoffs it's high time Calgary gets a crack at drafting higher than the sad sack Coilers anyway.
The stupidity/awesomeness of the team up highway 2 is going to take some time for the Flames to replicate.

I don't understand the question. If you are a Flames fan then you make fun of the Oilers. I don't get it. Has something changed?

Oilers fans still make fun of the Flames regardless of how much better the Flames have been. It's simply part of the rivalry. Much like how we watch the Canucks make it to the final and celebrate when they fail. It's still fun making fun of them failing on the big stage even if we would trade places with them in a heartbeat.

The Oilers currently have the dumbest, most embarrassing joke of a management as I've seen in a long time. The fact that they actually believe they're building a real contender with the moves they've made is laughable. Then their team stinks it up worse the next year, and they act as if they're geniuses for going out and taking the prospect ranked to go first overall, first overall, as if it didn't actually an ape to make that same choice. What's funnier (as if it could be so) is that they took Yakupov over Murray for their 3rd straight first pick, when what they needed to actually take a step closer to contending was a blue chip defenseman that actually knows how to play defense. And then they pick up Schultz, who, AGAIN doesn't address the defense issue.
There is so much to make fun of with the Oilers, you do not even have to be a Flames fan to do so. Columbus fans can make fun of the Oilers, and it still wouldn't be weird.
Still the laughing stock of the league. The only guys who don't get that are those peanut-brained neanderthals on HNIC.

Nothing beats the Islanders. Flames have to be dangerously close to being in talks about teams that are " laughing stock of the league".
Thing is with the Oilers, they are now in position to trade future 1st round selections to fill holes on the backend. Granted Tambellini would probably screw the trade up.

I can only shake my head djsFlames, we suck in the standings just as bad as the Oilers, but they have bad management? What does that say about Calgary? I'm not saying Edmonton is a well managed team, because really they are arguably the worst in the NHL.
As for making fun of the Canucks when they fail in the playoffs, sure that's a glorious event. But at least they make the playoffs, fans here would be doing cartwheels if the Flames had the same kind of success Vancouver has in the last few years. Think about the Iginla legacy and how he is highly revered for helping take the Flames to the finals. Well we LOST, just like Vancouver went to the finals and lost.
People don't want to hear or think about this stuff I guess, easier to just laugh at other teams and pretend we are somehow better.

Obviously I'm excluding ourselves from my rant. Yes, i'm perfectly aware of the shipwreck that is coming to fruition in this city. Who on here isn't?
My point still stands. Rexall place is a circus tent. And it is hi-larious!
Can we keep it at that?

You know what's not hilarious. Before they bottomed out, the Oilers tried to remain competitive with their pieces. They tried to be competitive and missed the playoffs three years in a row before dropping to the cellar. We may get one or two more years of trying to be competitive out of this team ... but there are scary parallels. Hilarious indeed.

I didn't mean that we'd be competitive, just that they'd be trying.

Were you around for the years when the Oilers were loaded with talent and would routinely beat the Flames? That team and their fans were insufferable. No self respecting fan from those days will now turn around and cheer for this or any version of the Oilers. The fact that you are stunned by this makes me think you are to young to remember those dark days.

I am pretty sure that his point was that Flames fans will have a hard time making fun of a team that is their equal in the standings or worse yet far ahead of them in the standings, not that he is planning on cheering for the Oilers.

Who said anything about cheering for the Oilers?
BTW I used to go to Flames games at the Corral. I clearly remember a friend of mind first telling me the Flames were coming here, I can still picture that day. I was in maybe grade 3 or 4.
