Folks are vastly overreacting to the lack of upgradability. Seriously, what in the next 3-4 years, is going to require significantly more RAM than we have now? If you think having 16GB is important, get it now, and realize that amortized over 4 years, that extra $200 cost you a whopping $4 per month..oh noes.
How about all those non-socketed chips on every single laptop motherboard out there? How come iFixit isn't up in arms about the fact that a single chip failure on any modern laptop means a hugely expensive motherboard replacement, including the soldered in CPU.
Seems like a non-story, from a company (iFixit) that is in the business of selling tools and parts to take these machines apart.

Editing 4K video will require a ton of RAM, for one. I want to make sure I get a more future-proof machine so I'm going to get the max, instead of the 8GB I had ordered. I would prefer it if I could have worried about that when the time came, but you're right, $200 is nothing when you're talking about the top end model.
But RAM is only a minor issue for me anyway. I have other reservations, including how the screen does scaling. It should still look gorgeous, but I want to see it for myself.

I cannot get over how happy this makes me. The fact that iTunes match downloads songs to my phone is the primary reason i don't use it. When it was time to pay for my 4S I was literally riding the edge of being able to afford it, so I went 16 gig. Because of that, listening to music on my phone (using iTunes) has become something I always have to second guess.

I don't understand - is your phone consistently full enough that you ran out of space listening to music because it was saving them as it played them? Were you having to constantly go into settings and delete the music data?
I mostly listen to streaming radio or podcasts on the go, so I'm genuinely curious because it's not a big problem for me.

I'm stoked that iOS6 users can upload photos on web forms, finally.

I thought iTunes Match was supposed to be smart about removing old songs to make room for new songs - more like a rotating cache of recently played songs.

If that's a feature, I haven't seen it. I usually have about a spare gig on my phone, and when you're streaming high quality apple files that gets picked up quick. It does save them, and as far as I can tell the only way to get rid of them is to go into settings-->General-->Usage-->Music-->Delete. Insanity. It streams as it should on the Mac, but on iOS devices it just downloads.

You know... for a first-release beta, so far iOS6 has been remarkably stable on my iPad. Also, I love the Siri/movie thing. "What's playing tonight at Chinook?" or "What's playing tomorrow night in 3D?" It's great. (Not to mention, "What should I eat tonight?" or "Where can I get a coffee?" etc etc.)
The addition of location-aware queries for Canada really makes a huge difference. Siri was barely more than a gimmick until now.

I bought the new MBP and its just being shipped. My previous MPB I bought almost 6 years ago, and has lasted quite long considering the lifespans of computers. I didn't get the Apple Care Insurance thing because I've has my previous MPB for 6 years with no issues. However upon reading this article here they mention that

Overall, iFixit gave the machine a dismal 1/10 for repairability.

Would it be necessary to get this Apple Care insurance due to the fact that everything is soldered into the motherboard?
I don't plan on doing any upgrades in the future as I already pre-ordered the upgrades. Also, is it even possible to get Apple Care since I've already bought the MBP, but haven't received it yet?

I'm pretty sure you can actually purchase AppleCare any time within the first year of ownership.

I had no idea Siri would work in the first release... that's pretty cool. Are the maps available in the beta too? Turn by turn?

Here's the thing. It's got nothing to do with the RAM being soldered on. Everything has always been integrated. If the power and charge control circuitry fails (mine did), it's a new logic board. If the ethernet port becomes unreliable (mine did), it's a new logic board. If the graphics processor starts dying, it's a new logic board.
This isn't unusual or different from most any laptop you can purchase - in almost all cases, you are one component failure away from requiring major expenses on replacement parts, or looking at a new machine.
Applecare can be purchased any time in the first year of ownership. $380 over three years is 10 bucks a month for worry free use of the machine. If you're a heavy user, or carry the laptop around a lot it seems like a good idea in my opinion, although lots of people have no issues with their electronics, so it's mostly a personal choice.

Exactly. In the broad spectrum of things, RAM is probably one of the least things to worry about. Especially now that RAM is unremovable, considering the majority of RAM failures are caused by improperly installed or mismatched aftermarket sticks.

The new maps app is present, with the new maps and functionality. It's a bit difficult to test at the moment though, since the maps are being served from a beta environment and those map servers are getting hammered right now.

I assume to get this view:
Your city would need to be mapped by flyover? From the sounds of it there are only about 14 cities available at this point of the beta (Montreal being the only canadian one).

It seems like early adopters have the most issues with Apple products, so I would definitely get Applecare. Their service is excellent, and often they'll just replace your device on the spot, although I'm not sure if they'd do that for a $2200+ MBP.

with computers they repair, not replace. but after 3 or so repairs you may be eligible for a replacement. i've had a computer replaced with 0 repairs though, so never know.

Rumor is that iOS 6 will see podcasts introduced as a standalone player, continuing the trend of the iTunes related apps being broken out into separate apps.
