Film was awesome. When Hulk and Thor end up ontop of the crashed creature/ship all heroic and then Hulk punches Thor I nearly fell outta my chair. And those D-Box chairs are fricken amazing!

I like how CBS cheaped out on the socks here.
And I didn't bother to quote all your lusting over Scarlett.

Watchmen is the Mona Lisa of superhero movies to me. Not a fair comparison for me to chime in on but.. ya. I guess I kinda did. Previous poster is right it's likely preference. To me tho Watchmen wasn't just a great comic book movie, it was a great movie.

Studio 16, Chinook, and Scotiabank Edmonton are all showing both The Avengers and Dark Shadows in their IMAX theatres starting on Friday (eg @ Chinook - morning Avengers, then Dark Shadows, then Avengers 2x, then Dark Shadows), so you can catch it on the big screen for at least another week.

Just came back after watching it for the second time. Just as good as the first time I saw it. All the jokes still funny too (unlike The Hangover which was a comedy).

My favorite part was the entire movie. So gooooood.
As for the "where did Hulk learn to control." It is referenced when he came to earth and the oldman points out that he looked to move away from population to crash where he did (from what I understood) but the entire scene was a reference to a scene in Ultimates 2 where Banner shows up and walks at the attacking robots and lets the robot come at him and then transforms.
He's not "in control" so much as he is in touch with his inner sociopath.

I'd experience applause at two movies:
The first was Transformers when Optimus made his first appearance.
The second time was at the Plaza Theatre in Kensington, when they did a showing of Turkish Star Wars. Hand to God, the theatre broke out in massive applause about 10 times time during that showing. No exaggeration. That movie was quite simply amazing.

But yeah Avengers... that movie was alright too

I really enjoyed the movie, and I thought dreamy mcblondie did a better job of Captain America this time round, maybe it was because it wasn't centered on him.
I'd give it a solid 7/10, closer to an 8 though. It was a 6 up until that massive final battle, which was worth the price of admission alone. That final battle was amazing, so well done. In the context of a movie about demi-gods, super humans and men in battle suits I thought the end was "real". There was some very cool, very emotional moments I thought.
All the characters were used very well, loved Captain America laying out the battle plan then just telling Hulk to go berserk. I thought for sure Hulk was going to yell "Wild card, bitches!" then let loose.
Loki was a fantastic villain too.
I don't have the childhood attachment to The Avengers like I do Spiderman or the X-Men but even I nerded out at the end seeing Thanos, nice ending there.
I was surprised with the amount of build up at the start of the film, I figured with all those individual movies there would be less but I suppose with the sheer amount of characters it was still needed. I'd like to see Hawkeye and Black Widow have a joint movie, that would be kinda neat. Obviously some history there but dunno if either need there own flick.
Nice to see Joss Wheadon get atleast one character to call the ship a boat.

In the funny books, Black Widow was most recently attached to Bucky, The Winter Soldier, who was briefly Captain America when Steve Rogers was apparently killed. Bucky is apparently dead now too.

A recent report by movie disaster experts aiming to figure out how much the damage done to New York in The Avengers would cost is stating that it would cost $160bn. Those experts are Kinetic Analysis Corp, a leading disaster-cost firm in the US. The physical damage of the invasion would cost $60-70bn, and economic and cleanup costs coming in at $90bn.

Loved the movie, my only complaint was Loki. At the end of Thor, I thought he was turning out to be an amazing villain. I thought he could have been a lot more "evil". I think I would have preferred the movie to be about Loki as the villain alone, rather than him answering to a higher figure (Thanos).

as far as i remember, Loki has never been the big bad solo villain, he always has help from someone more powerful than him. i think the movie did an excellent job portraying his character

I envisioned Loki as more of a maniacal-evil-genius-type villian. One without much brawn, but still very clever and dangerous. To me, the film didn't meet that image. Loki's plan was simply to open a window to another world, for an invading army. It was too in your face, too obvious of a plot. I was hoping for something more deceptive. I know that is not a valid criticism of the film, just how I pictured Loki.
Anyways I thought it was one of the superhero movies I have seen. Right up there with Batman and the Watchman, but of course very different.
Edit: I liked Yeah_Baby's comparison of Loki to Saruman in the best villains thread. Maybe I just had Loki pegged completely incorrectly. He's just a tool but I find that disappointing.

Wow, The Avengers is going to have the best second weekend of all-time, taking out Avatar this time. I don't think it has the legs to beat Avatar, but maybe it could top 2 billion when it's all said and done.
Quote:
Sorry Captain Jack, but Captain America isn’t ready to give up the top spot at the box office yet!
In its second weekend in theaters, The Avengers is still breaking records — this time, it’s headed for the best second weekend in box office history. The superhero ensemble film took in a gargantuan $29.1 million on Friday, which should lead to a weekend in the $95-105 million range — far more than current record hold Avatar, which earned $75.6 million in its second frame.
Tonight, on its ninth day of release, The Avengers will cross the $300 million mark (it’s made $299.1 million so far), and on Sunday it will soar past $350 million. No film has ever reached those milestones faster.

It's on pace to get ~$100M on its second weekend, I think it can hold off Battleship next week.
This is the only movie where I have ever thought about going to see it a third time (which I will this week).
I think it will bow out to Men in Black III because A) it's Men in Black and B) its 4th weekend. If it can hold off Men in Black though it won't have any huge opposition until Prometheus on June 8.

So... how did Thor get back to earth?
At the end of his movie he was trapped in Asgard.

Battleship is going to flop bigtime, I wouldn't worry about it. The Dictator might beat it that weekend.

They get around it by just saying Odin did it.
I would explain Odins powers more but that's from the comic books and this is a movie thread. Wouldn't want to spoil anything.
