There's no way the 9th inning is just another inning. There's no way the 9th inning is just another inning. What worries me more than blowing the save (that so-called outdated stat) but that's he's giving up home runs in the 9th.

adios...too bad for Alvarez. he was pitching very well except for the home run. Again, Pedroia is clutch getting the hr and and coming home to tie it...he is a Jay-killer

#1- This discussion again started when it was 2-2

#2- The bluejays offense is just as much at fault for this game

#3- He came in to face the 2-3-4 hitters of the best offensive team in baseball. His catcher and defense did nothing to help him.

1) You said after the game that he did not blow it after the closer was credited with a blown save and entered the game 2-1 and left it 2-4.

2) The offense gave the closer the lead with 3 outs to go. Not sure why they'd receive much, or any blame at all.

3) This point would make more sense to me if he was pitching well and the Sox were just getting their bats on top of tough pitches. But unfortunately that wasn't the case, Santos was all over the map.

I don't want to release Santos or trade him or anything of the sort, but he blew this game without question IMO. Not the end of the world, hope he shakes this one off and comes back stronger next time out.

On your 3rd point- he gave up a double to Pedroia with no outs and later walked Ortiz (the go ahead run) and later threw a pitch into the dirt allowing the other run to come in... he lost his command and poise.

it is still only 4 games in...Santos will get it together.

Come on, a one run lead with the 2-3-4 hitters due is a legitimate save opportunity. It's every bit a situation where you bring in a guy you feel is your best pitcher to get the three outs you need to win the game.

But Pedrioa is some kind of clutch player. He always seems to be the guy who rallies the Red Sox on offence.

He's given up one home run in the 9th. It was on a good pitch that Cabrerra made a great play to hit out of the park.

Yes the 9th inning is in fact just like any other inning. No teams do not push any harder then they did in the 8th. A team does not try any harder at bat in the 8th, then they do in the 9th. Decades and decades of baseball games and statistics show us that this is simply not the case. You're theory of "teams try harder when they are losing" and this one simply have nothing to back them up, besides an observation Joe Morgan would make.

He is paid to be a relief pitcher, he did not get guys out. Jose Bautista is paid to hit the ball, he did not do it.

The offense deserves just as much blame. They gave him the lead mans nothing, they still were awful against a weak Red Sox bullpen. How the BlueJays hit the ball tonight poorly has no relationship to how Santos pitched. This is not hockey

He didn't blow the game. He contributed to the Jays losing and was far from sharp.

For this argument sakes...It has to be pointed out that the title of blowing it was placed on Santos when the score was still 2-2. That's what I took offense to
