Alberta halts approval for all clean energy projects until they can be made dirtier
Quote:
“Alberta has a proud tradition of producing some of the dirtiest energy known to humankind, and if these green energy projects want to continue to set up shop here, they’ve got to be able to compete with oil and gas in both long and short term environmental devastation,” Smith said.

The real reason for renewable development pause? Ya, O&G. Such a coincidence.

There is a huge conflict of interest because no one is paid to call out the fake appraisals. Employees of CPPIB get paid extremely well $150k-$1m+ per year, but they can make multiple times that by jumping to the private equity firms that CPPIB hires. And they do.

Is an associate making $300k at CPPIB going to go to their boss at CPPIB and say "you know this private equity fund where I want a jump ship to...they are overstating their returns so we need to investigate them and ask for a fee clawback. Also I realize me telling you this results in a lower bonus for our group at CPPIB too".

When the tide goes out, it's going to be pension funds swimming naked. And the more private market assets they're invested in, the worse it's going to be.

It is why you need strong government action on climate change. You would have to be a complete idiot to think technological advancement or good corporate citizenship will reduce carbon emissions. Only decisive government action can combat climate change.

Alberta dilutes legislated traffic protections for roadside workers

The original version of the bill, which amended the Traffic Safety Act, required drivers in every lane going in the same direction to reduce their speed to 60 kilometres per hour when passing a roadside worker's vehicle with its flashing lights on.

Drivers on two-lane highways were required to slow to 60 in both directions.

On Tuesday, Transportation Minister Devin Dreeshen announced the speed limit change would come into effect on Sept. 1 but would only apply to drivers in the lane closest to the roadside worker.
Quote:
The old set of rules were set to come in effect in March but the government put them on pause in order to release a driver education campaign lasting two to three months.

Instead, the education campaign is starting Tuesday, a little over three weeks before the rules are set to come in.

Dreeshen claimed it was dangerous for drivers in multiple lanes to slow down at the same time.

Yes, well, Dreeshen is also a ####ing idiot, so there's that. Why are they so bad at everything?

So basically the same rules as before for Police/Fire/EMS, but now it also applies to roadside workers (ie: tow-truck drivers).

Eh, it's something.

Are there any lengths they won't go to make sure we are different than the rest of Canada or the civilized world for that matter?

He's right. It's way safer to have everyone in the right lane, which is slowing to 60 km/h abruptly, to panic-merge into the left lane all at the same time so they can drive faster, with cars that are operating at a speed limit 50 km/h higher than theirs. It even sounds simple as I type it.

60 km/h in all lanes is woke.

If Alberta accidently makes it to net zero before 2035 it's gonna make the UCP look bad. Better to stop all of the renewable projects now just in case.

Alberta/UCP seems like the type of deadbeat dad who refuses to get a job just to not pay child support, thinking it's clever and a win.

That is an absolutely beautiful and apt analogy.

Yes that's what we need, a leader that only wants to work for part of the population. More of that makes the world a better place.
