Ran some quick maths to see p/60 vs ice time correlation. All 5v5 scoring only.

First I went with every forward with 10 or more points this season. 355 players.

For every minute more in ice time a player would score on average 0.13 more points/60.

Restricting it to just players with 27 or more points (top 100 forwards+ties)

Players with more ice-time scored less per minute on average, but only barely. (-0.03 p/60 per extra minute).

Now just the players below 27 points (250 players)

Confusingly, pretty barely correlated similarly to the top 100. (+0.03 p/60 per extra minute)

To apply to the Flames, only 15 of the top 50 players in p/60 have less icetime than Blake Coleman (Flames leading 5v5 icetime forward). 30 of the next 50 top players in p/60 have less icetime than Coleman, so there's definitely more top scorers with high ice-time than otherwise, which makes sense.

22 players play more than Coleman and score less, 86 players play more than Coleman and score more. Coleman is 8th/9th on the team in p/60 if you're counting Ruzicka or not.

Not sure if these stats mean anything.

The Flames are over the proposed 2023/2024 salary cap.

Hilarious. Painful.

Please burn it down.

I feel like we knew this already but maybe it was just the general doom and gloom.

My guess is they move Vladar and Kylington's contract.

My fear is that there is a management change, Sutter gets too much power and they make ridiculous trades

Sounds like they may negotiate a bit of a bump depending on what the NHLPA wants.

IMO they have to get out from under the Kylington contract uncertainty. No disrespect intended to Kylington but the organization has to have some certainty for next season one way or the other. I hope the best for him regardless.

If Kylington is fit to play but is choosing not to for this long, then his contract should be terminated. It's a business, in the end.

It felt like the Flames were in a great spot to shed some salary for next year, add some needed futures at the deadline, and be in a better position to retool. Instead they hold onto everyone and will head to the draft where teams know they are completely up against it and have one less playoff run with the player they were hoping to acquire at the deadline.

Not a good look or a ton of confidence this will get better

85% of the league will be up against the cap next year. The Flames are actually not in as bad as a situation as some other teams.

It's a strong possibility that at least one, two, or more of the pending UFA's will be traded in the offseason so it will be easy for them to clear cap space. They will probably be a worse team on paper but I've seen nothing from this season's edition of the Flames that warrants keeping this group of players together any longer so subtractions could be a positive.

It's funny how Nashville is looking better after trading some pieces away. They look worse on paper but better on the ice.

Obviously the massive changes to the core affected the chemistry on the team this year, but hopefully in the offseason the changes they make can let them come back and build some chemistry again.

You know as a Flames fan this is exactly how it plays out. We can't have nice things.

All the more perplexing as to why we weren’t sellers at this year’s deadline.

Trades have to be salary in and salary out with a tight cap. So Flames would have had to take back cap dumps

I think it's easier to trade guys with term in the offseason rather than during trade deadline. In the offseason, teams have a better sense of what UFAs are leaving, and where their cap space will be coming up. It's not like Flames had a long list of prominent UFAs coming up.

Next season, however, will be a completely different story as half their core is UFA by the end.

If Zary is ready to make the jump one of Kadri, Lindholm or and Backlund could be traded to give us cap relief and insert him.

I have my idea who to move but he might be the hardest least value.

Expiring contracts would work in this case.

Kadri?

How many teams could have signed Kadri to the contract Flames offered last summer? And after this season, he has not exactly increased his value.

He had offers apparently and some larger than ours.

I am just holding out hope Colorado wants him back somehow and we can make it work.
