The other Eagles story that isn't getting a lot of attention is how well former 7th round pick King Dunlap played this week while Jason Peters was out. I thought he was substantially better than Peters has been since he arrived in Philly last year.

This was the best the line has played all year, thought they were excellent. Opened lanes in the running game and gave Kolb tonnes of time in the pocket. Pretty impressive when you think Herremans is the only original starter of the five. Through in the new FB and looks even better.
I think the play of Mike McGlynn is worth noting as well.
I am a big Kolb supporter and IF he is you QB next year you stick with him and move forward. Doesn't make sense to me to waste another year of Kolb if you are letting Vick walk in the off season.

It is surprising to me that we don't have more die hard Steelers fan on the board.

Diggler here, i am indeed a chargers fan, these are tough times indeed. i will be in san diego for the pats game this weekend, might not be pretty, but something like this might be needed to make changes.... when was the last time the AFC west was strong??

On the Eagles QB situation...I'm very torn. Kolb was their guy at the start of the year. Vick came in and saved the season and gave them hope; displaying some of the finest QB play the Eagles have ever seen. He was so electric...and likely surpassed the quality of play he showed in his 'prime' in Atlanta. Vick essentially WAS the Eagles offense, and the young WR's thrived under his gutsy play.
I don't feel for Andy Reid because he has a very difficult decision to make and it's going to be intensely criticized likely either way he goes. Does he go with Vick just because that's what he promised? I might be with Galakanokis here...it might do more harm for Kolb than good to stall his progress at this point.
But I don't see how the FO can let Vick simply walk in the off-season; what kind of asset management is that?

James Harrison is a baby.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5706748
Quote:
Harrison's agent Bill Parise said Wednesday his client is "very serious" about retiring after getting fined $75,000 for a hit that knocked Mohamed Massaquoi out of the Steelers' win over the Cleveland Browns. Harrison met Wednesday with Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, who excused his linebacker from the Steelers preparations for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
"We wouldn't joke about this," Parise said. "This is a very serious issue. James is very concerned about how to play football. If James is going to be fined $75,000 for making a legal tackle, then how do you go play football? It's quite frustrating to James, to Coach Tomlin, to me, to everybody."
|
No, it wasn't a legal hit. That's why you were fined. Either play the game by the rules or GTFO.

Well Kolb gets another week to make the decision even harder.
I don't think the Eagles lose Vick for nothing but I do think they have to pick their horse and ride it. One way or another I cannot see both Vick and Kolb returning to the Eagles next year. There is a huge market for QB's right now and the Eagles have two (in my mind anyways) very good ones.
I am ok with whatever happens but I would prefer to go with the younger guy seeing how young everyone else is on the team.
I am just happy with the way the Eagles are playing and even more happy to see "America's Team" at the bottom of the division.

The AFC West was a decently strong Division back in 2006, even into 2007 it was strong in that 3 of the 4 teams were competing for the playoffs with the Chargers being 14-2 and the Cheifs and Bronco's both at 9-7. But it has been a long time since a AFC West team went to the Superbowl, and a longer time since one of them won it, and I'm pretty sure neither one is happening this year.

I think that 9 of the last 15 teams who were the last undefeated team in the regular season has gone to the superbowl...so this could be the year!

Colts Punter arrested after swimming in a canal and saying he did it because he's drunk. Kickers and Punters are indeed an odd sort.

Not sure what choice there is actually. They have committed to Kolb in both money and time, and the trade deadline has come and gone. So Vick is a UFA after the season....and will likely price himself well out of Philadelphia's range with whatever it is they have invested in Kolb.

Not really. Kolb's contract is structured in way that it makes it very easy for the Eagles to dump him after this year. They could easily franchise Vick and then look for the best deal for either guy.

he is guarenteed 12 million total this year and next of which 10 million is in bonuses...I dont see how he is "easy" to dump in that case. Trading him seems highly unlikely as his base salary next year will only be about 780K, which any team will pay, but his bonus will be over 5 million, and the Eagles are directly responsible for that money.
either way though, they traded McNabb because they had this guy....so now they are gonna dump this guy for Vick...and on it goes. Not a good trend.

Mark Schlereth sounds off on the NFL re: hits and fines
Video: http://espn.go.com/blog/sportscenter...eth-sounds-off
I agree with him that the NFL is talking out of both sides of their mouths on this issue. They know what attracts people to the game, and the hard hits are a good part of it. Dunta Robinson should not have been fined, IMO.
I think Hemi-Cuda is on to something:

Like Urlacher said, let's call it the NFFL, National Flag Football League, and we won't have to worry about these hits anymore. I'm sure the TV deal will be the same.

true enough, it just seems like forever that there was more than 1 good team... and i would agree, whoever come out of that division wont make the big game and will get killed by a team like Pitts or Balt.

I meant to write this Monday night but completely forgot, but I have to say that the MNF crew has easily become my favourite NFL crew. Replacing the hilarious but out of his element Kornheiser with Gruden was a brilliant move, I could listen to that guy talk all day, he cracks me up so much. Just love that crazy SOB. Add in Jaws' mathematical analysis of the game and Tirico's strong voice and you've got yourself a winner.
After years of trying (and failing) to find a good 3-man team from the old ESPN Sunday Night crew and later to MNF since Madden/Michaels left for NBC, ESPN's finally struck broadcasting gold. I just hope Gruden doesn't up & run away next year to go back to coaching(though it wouldn't surprise me).

^^And I really get much more from the breakdown that Gruden gives when he uses the actual terms that the coaches use in the dressing room or while discussing plays.
