This. I'm not happy they won tonight but i know it's not the end of the world. The Flames have done very good in their drafts these past few years and they know how important this one is. They are going to be working hard to get the best player for us moving forward.

Why not draft high and draft smart? That seems like a much better way to go about things than just drafting smart.
The Crosby pick was the post lockout one where Pittsburg had the same odds of winning the top pick as the 6th last place team does this year.

It's terrible because we are winning games on the backs of the likes of Kipper and Steve Begin.

These aren't reasons for optimism, they won't even be here in a few months.

If Rhino was scoring hattricks and Baertschi was dominating out there I'd agree with you but that was just an ugly game tonight. They won because Kipper stood on his head and Howard crapped the bed. No reason to be happy for next season, just the end result that the team will probably be worse for the next 8-10 years.

On paper, I'd say we are the worst team in the league.

And I expect the media will predict as much next season.

The Flames really needed a top 3 pick, and they're not going to get it. Now we have to toil for a whole 82 games to get Sam Reinhart (and likely lose him in the lottery).

But I think we are - that's what's so bitter about this. The team looked terrible tonight, yet won on two fluke goals and Kiprusoff's last fumes. This franchise is cursed...

It is completely stupid especially when it's so obvious every team around them is pulling this tanking. Fml, can't even lose properly.
In all honestly, was there ever any doubt this was going to happen? We all saw it coming.

We're like the kid tripping on his own shoelaces and then when he bends to tie them up his pants fall down to his ankles and he trips again.

i really enjoyed watching Kipper tonight and listening to the last minute on the Fan960- a bit like old times. No team with #34 in the net will finish last. I hope he sticks around for next year.

Don't think the Flames were as bad this game as people are suggesting. Bad offensively? Sure. But we played some good team defense and blocked a lot of shots. I thought Wideman was really solid, as was Brodie. We made the Wings look like one of the worst offensive teams in the league and made their PP look impotent. Very tight checking in our own zone and a big improvement in that area from earlier this season.

I wasn't happy we won because of the draft position ramifications. But it is good to see that even without Bouwmeester our team defence looks a heck of a lot better than the Oil.

Ughhhhh, now Nashville and Carolina leap us....

Need..MacKinnon..

Why can't these other basement teams man up and play with some pride like our team has done, and goodness, Carolina has twice as much talent on their roster right now, and they can't eek out a win here or there? Pathetic on their part.

Florida, TB, and Carolina play tomorrow. I've marked them all down for losses.

We can only hope by being one of the few teams still trying to play with some heart and effort and not throwing in the towel that we will somehow be rewarded by winning the draft lottery.

I think a lot of younger fans don't understand that what is happening is the 90's all over again. This is a bad team that's not helping itself get better by winning meaningless games at garbage time. I'm not saying tanking is right but the Lightning, Hurricanes, Avalanche and Predator organizations know very well what they are doing and that's failing today to win tomorrow. Flames are winning today to fail tomorrow.

Does anyone in the Flames org. think these "wins" are damaging the franchise? Or does Feaster believe that all top 10 picks are the same? The Oilers could conceivably pick before us. It was sorta funny a few wins ago, but this is getting ridiculous.

And a team led by Steven Stamkos and St. Louis is below us in the standings. Unbelievable.

Anybody know if Carolina, Tampa and Florida play each other at all in the final stretch?

EE you could've scored both of Begin's goals tonight. If another team wants to score on their own net and then give a player a free empty net shorthanded, what can the Flames do? The Flames played far worse than Monday and got two points because the Red Wings lost. Not about playing better in garbage time or anything like that.

Carolina could beat Winnipeg if their big guns show up. The way the Habs have played these past two games Tampa could upset them as well. The Panthers will lose though.

TB plays them both once. Florida and Carolina don't play each other.

I find it funny that everybody is jumping on the flames for winning, like there is any other choice. It's not like they decided to suck all season and just now collectively changed their minds.

You have 20+ guys fighting for jobs right now. I'm sure not one player in that room is looking to tank to get the flames a higher draft pick. It would mean one more person that could possible take a roster spot away from them.

Can't blame Mgmt or the Coaching staff either, the've gone out of their way to bring up the young guys and play them a ton. I'm sure Feaster is just as frustrated as the rest of us.

Good. At least we can be sure that some points will go to teams below us.

I just worry about us taking care of our own business. Kipper might just steal another one on friday.
