I played a few games on jackbox.tv this weekend with friends. A collection of party games where players use their phone as their personal screen and them the tv acts as a common screen for everyone. Can buy it on Xbox and ps4. Good for groups!

Played Secret Hitler at a friends house this weekend. Was a lot of fun. Though i wish the game lasted a little longer.

The thing with Secret Hitler is that as soon as you finish playing it, everyone tends to want to play again. I don't think I've ever played that game once and stopped.

Those are awesome - ran both those adventures back in the day.

Do you know where she got the shirts?

If you mean a lot longer, rather than a little, you could try Battlestar Galatica. It's not as elegant a rule set, though.

Very different game and playing experience, though. Secret Hitler is a pure social deduction game that is best played with a large group (8 or more). BSG is a cooperative game with a hidden traitor mechanic, much more like Dead of Winter or New Angeles. There's a lot more substance and complexity to that type of game (hence they're best with 4-5 players), and even though there's a social deduction aspect, it's just a small part of a larger thing - figuring out who the traitor is is incidental to the main goal. Secret Hitler is more like Werewolf or something.

Catan? Hollywood tries its luck on board games

https://www.marketplace.org/2018/01/...ck-board-games

Sony Pictures is in negotiations to acquire the rights to adapt Catan. Some fans like Williams wonder whether the game can survive the Hollywood treatment.

Catan's creator Klaus Teuber, wants to see it turned into a movie. He designed the game in the 1980s as a passion project while working full time as a dental technician, and he has painstakingly shepherded all Catan spin-offs. Teuber wants a movie or TV series to resonate with fans and answer their questions.

“I think they want to know where come the Cataners from? Where is Catan? How do Catan look like? I think this could be a frame for a full and rich story,” Teuber said.

Ugh. No reason to believe it would rise above the level of Battleship.

Oh come on. It's a euro game. There's no concept there. The entire "island settling" thing is just there for window dressing, it's a delivery system for the game mechanic. There are no characters, there's no plot, there's nothing associated with the game itself. That's so stupid.

If you wanted to make a movie out of a board game with an atmospheric concept like New Angeles, fine I guess. But not a Euro.

Incidentally, here's the new game table, delivered at last.

... And the game surface. I ended up moving the metal legs together and fixing them as a single large pedestal, for more leg room underneath. But it's nice to have the option to separate them later if I like.

The Catan app for iPad introduces characters and a campaign. There is Knight Sean, and Mary Ann who lives on a farm just north of the forest. Don't forget Hildegard, William, Nassir and Lin.

This could be bigger than Clue!

Sweet table Corsi!

I picked up mine on a work trip to Vancouver this last week (preorder @ Starlit Citidel and got a refund on my shipping since I was there) and what a fun game! Probably will play most of it solo but it’s still good fun. It needs some sort of organizer I find though, my initial plays were a bit slow due to the setup, but now that I went out and bought a parts holder it makes setup and takedown super fast.

I might be following this plan for a storage solution.

$180.00... expensive I know, but the game box weighs in at 20 lbs so it’s only $9.00 per pound lol.

It's worth it, biggest, fullest game box I've seen to date and the game itself is top notch. Just be ready for a hefty commitment, my schedule hasn't allowed me to enjoy all of the quests with my playgroup but from what I have played it's great.

But the beauty of it is each individual scenario scales to the number of players you have with a very easy color coded system on the set up map. So if Timbo can't make this session you just play with three instead and the difficulty will scale with you.
