Nice that Gaudreau is the only unanimous selection for the All-Hockey East Team.

Wow. It bodes well for Johnny, means less for Gillies, though impressive still.

I may be jaded, but I put a lot of temperance on my hopes for goalie prospects

Sounds like the Flames' doctors are going to take a look at Sieloff:
pat sieloff ‏@PatSieloff 1h Back to Calgary tomorrow to hopefully hear some good news.

If he is healthy he may sign an ATO with the Heat like Kulak

Brossoit's numbers are truly impressive, getting cut from the Team Canada really gave him a kick in the pants.

Kulak's -34 is to be expected... he is a top pairing guy for the worst team in the WHL.

HIFK loses 3-1.

I watched the second and third periods and Ortio was sharp and had no chance at all on the goals I saw. The redirection on the winning goal looked like it could have been a high stick and they didn't even go to video, which left a bad taste. On the third goal a forward slid into him and the secondary guy shot it upstairs.

Granlund assisted on HIFK goal but was pretty invincible overall. Kind of a boring, grindy game where no individual really shines. Tappara simply played their typical solid game and won. HIFK's offense looked futile. Granlund also tanguayed a forced pass on a great chance with 3 minutes left which wasn't so great.

Some angry words excanged after the final whistle. One guy was going nuts on Nieminen who played a good game. Maybe the next game will have more electricity. Barkov was okay, not great, but you can see that his ability to use his body and decision making with the puck are excellent. Long stick, Jagr-like big ass, aware of his linemates and keeps the puck alive, plays in every situation.

Ortio with 27 saves; Metsola with 19 at the other end.

Highlights from the HIFK game. It still says that Mäntylä scored the second goal but in slow motion it really looked like a redirection of a heavy slapshot that was going over the goal. It was already amateurish that they didn't look at video in the game and I don't know if anyone's looked at it officially yet.

Looks like Granlund had a couple of nice shifts in the first period. Also on the ice for the goal against.

HIFK loses the second game 4-1. Ortio with 24 saves and 3 goals allowed, Granlund was a scratch. Goalie at the other end had 43 saves. No one gave them a chance in the series and so far everyone seems to have been correct.

Not Flames related and mods want it moved to PM that's fine but how has Juha been doing?

He was fun to watch in Lethbridge and fit perfectly with the team we had.

From what I hear he's been great. He also has a solid team in front of him. Second in the league in save percentage with 93.01 in the regular season, most shutouts with 8, fifth in gaa, second in wins. Antti Raanta is clearly the best goalie in Finland right now but Metsola is among the best after that.

Coda Gordon has a goal so far tonight in the Hitmen/Broncos game. Saskatoon is behind 3-1 versus Med. Hat.

A long ways to go, but when was the last time (if ever) has a team that's hosting the Mem. Cup been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs?

I can't remember when a hosting team lost in the first round, but last year the Cataractes lost in the 2nd round (and went on to win the Memorial Cup). Good question!

Interesting tidbits of info on the two men named Jon/John G...

Quote:
@FriarsHockey: Hockey East Rookie of the Year Gillies just the 3rd Freshman ever named to #HockeyEast 1st team - joining Paul Kariya and Brian Leetch
Quote:
@BCHockeyNews: Gaudreau just the 4th underclassman to win POY, 3rd from #BCHockey ... Joins some good company -- Brian Leetch, Paul Kariya, Greg Brown

Brown didn't have much of an NHL career, but the other two guys were kind of okay.

This tells me that the Flames need to start deviating from their drafting. They no longer should be drafting prospects with a last name that starts with B. They need prospects with the initials J.G. Maybe we will just have to settle for Johns - I hear Jonathan Drouin isn't too much of a scrub.

It's hard not to be excited about this guy. I've always been a goalie nerd and it's tough to follow goalie prospects because most of them don't make it, and if they do it's not with your team.. but man.. it's hard not to like a kid whose put himself with names like Kariya and Leech.

Ramage with a goal and an assist (including the game winner) in Wisconsin's 4-1 win over St Cloud State in the WCAC semi finals. They will play either Colorado College or Minnesota in the finals tomorrow.
