Let's go Johnny Hockey! Does he have a legitimate shot? I don't follow NCAA very closely so I really have no clue. Would be great to see him win though (considering the lack of high end talent in our prospect pool).

Will not be surprised to see Gillies make the top 10 at the very least. Providence would not have won half the games they did without him.

I was just thinking that the NCAA should be a great place for a goalie to develop because they get the time they need, but I was trying to think of goalies in the league today that went the NCAA route. Anyone got a list just off the top of their head?

CBS Sports had him ranked #2 in their most recent weekly Hobey Baker Award Watch.

He's been a big game performer in the past, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if he goes on a tear in the playoffs and takes the award.

Seems pretty obvious they were cheating with some kind of bot / program in Round 1.
What's disappointing is that we couldn't find a way to cheat better.

Shouldn't his on-ice play dictate a Hobey nomination?

Go away, I am saying the kid will get it on his own merit.

And he will or he won't. If you would read the first post you'd see it's worth 1% of the vote, just something to get fan interest up.

Jury is still out on Scrivens, Bishop, and Elliot (amazing last year, this year not so much)
Clemmensen and Ellis has been servicable backups. Montoya is very hot and cold in limited action. Bachman sucks, Dipietro sucks.
Small sample size, but with 5 out of 13 being true #1's (2 of them winning Vezina's), and really only 2 being unmitigated disasters, the NCAA route doesn't look to terrible for goalies.

Hockey East Writers and Broadcasters Association announces year-end awards, name Flames prospects Gaudreau and Gilles two of the biggest winners.
Quote:
Boston College sophomore forward Johnny Gaudreau was named Player of the Year by the Hockey East Writers and Broadcasters Association on Wednesday while UMass Lowell head coach Norm Bazin was named Coach of the Year and Providence goaltender Jon Gillies captured the association’s Rookie of the Year award.
Gaudreau was also a unanimous selection on the HEWBA’s All-Hockey East First Team while his BC teammate, Mike Matheson, along with forwards Danny O’Regan (Boston University) and Kevin Roy (Northeastern) were unanimous choices for the HEWBA’s All-Rookie Team.
|
Quote:
Gaudreau led Hockey East with 36 points (12 goals, 24 assists) appearing in all 27 of Boston College’s league games this season. He scored the fifth-most goals in conference play and also led the league in assists. The sophomore was tied with his BC teammate, Steven Whitney, for the most game-winning goals (5) in the league and his 100 shots on goal were second to only UNH’s John Henrion.
