Tried some of this on the weekend. You don't find a lot of bitters around and I liked this one.

Anyone hear of any beer advent calendars this year? Had a quick look in Co-op, and didn't see anything. Also chatted to the folks in Vine Arts and they mentioned they weren't really getting anything this year either.
I did pick up the Phillips Space Case however.

I believe supply was much lower this year and they all sold out quickly. Doesn't sound like a lot of retailers will be getting more.
They were advertising this years as gold award winning beers never sold in Canada, which likely inspired a lot of beer nuts to run out and get one. Would be curious to see the list though. Oh well, you can just as well put together your own at Collective- and stick to the styles you like.

Wildrose SOB is one of my best beer memories. When they first released it with the Ship & Anchor, the Ship did a bus tour out to the brewery for a "tour". This was the old brewery out in Foothills Industrial. The tour was essentially - here's the tap, here's the cups, we'll be out back grilling smokies. Super nice guys.

I got my Craft BeerAdvent Calendar last week at the Sage Hill Wine & Beyond, they only had about 10 cases when I was there. The Craft BeerAdvent Calendar Facebook page said they would go fast. Here's the link for where they were supposed to be sold:

I have been on the lookout for these advent calendars for so long. Contacted a few CO-Ops, Costcos liquor depots. This list is good. Looks like it is a rare commodity this year for some reason.

Stores stopped going big on calendars because if you don't sell them late November or early December, you end up with an unsellable monstrosity. As another option, you can find some unfilled calendars online, and then fill them yourself to give away, or join a group that wraps individual beers with the date on the outside, to be opened by everyone in the group on the same day to comment on.

I just sent them a note asking how big the cans/bottles were. 12 for $75, so I’m expecting tall boys at a minimum.

Purchased a singleton to deploy in my gift to self advent calendar- I will ensure it gets a Friday or Saturday slot- always hate when an advent calendar serves

Yeah, the craft beer scene seems to still be about 70 per cent IPAs, with a few stouts, blonde ales, and sours jostling for the remainder. Still not seeing an uptake in malty English ales, and bitters are nowhere to be found (even my go-to Fuller's ESB isn't in stock often at my local beer store).
I figured IPAs would fade eventually and make room for other beers, but at this point I'm resigned to the idea that for a lot of craft beer drinkers, hoppy pale ales are craft beer.

I do like a good IPA, but agree that we need to see more variety in the craft beer scene. Many times brewery variety packs might carry 4 types of beers (2 of them will be IPAs), and that really hopefully changes soon.

did they do an advent calendar proper in the end? I'm bummed if so- that was often my go-to (or their previous incarnation/collaboration with Parallel 49) . All I saw were two boxes of minimum assortments (like 4 each of 6 of their beer etc)
in the end I've gone with the Phillips 12 box and 12 hand picked of my own (had fun at 5 Vines doing that task- strangely came home with more than 12, not sure how that happened)

Ya, I took the craft advent calendar for granted this year as there always seemed to be so many left over in the past. Seems like they are all long gone this year with a much smaller supply.
The willow park one might be a decent consolation I guess. All local beer I believe, which is fine. The german beer advent calendar I got a couple years ago was the biggest joke- about 20 pilsners.

Ya you're right, it's just four of six different beers. My bad, I didn't look too hard at it.
