He was instrumental in Canada's win and is a point per game in the playoffs... why "especially" in the playoffs? Nothing about his resume indicates that.
I feel like people here would say the same thing about any player outside of mackinnon and mcdavid.
You need players like marner here in order to get away from being that offensive black hole that people think we are.

I guess atleast with the Sabres, they've been so bad so long that they have lots of other high draft picks and they're due to get another this year.
Their roster should be performing way better then they are though.
I think the biggest problem is their back end. Their defensive play is horrible, D-core is too young and UPL isn't ready yet either.
They desperately need to bring in a couple vet stabilizers on the back end and a stable vet 1B goalie. They should probably trade one or two of those young d, but Dahlin would be the last one I would move.

Dahlin has no leverage. He signed an 8 year deal and is signed for 6 more years. He can refuse to play, at which point the Sabres can suspend him without pay.

If he requests a trade he’ll get moved

What is the hypothetical price for Dahlin from a Flames perspective?
Two 1sts, Coronato, Pospisil? Is that even enough?

There will be a big market but it'll be a bad move to give out anything beyond 5 years IMO.

Bennett is great now, but whoever signs him is going to really regret it. A huge number of red flags there:
He wants his big payday.
He's turning 29.
He's very much a complimentary player.
He only thrives under select conditions and doesn't gel with just any set of players.
His physical style will almost certainly go downhill with age and injury.
He's kind of dumb. He isn't the player who can make up for declining physical abilities with intelligence.
Bennett is getting a massive contract though. Whoever signs it will almost certainly have at least 3-4 years of cap anchor to deal with. Although I think Bennett is a better person than James Neal, signing Bennett would put Calgary in a very similar situation as when they signed James Neal, except there's no chance that Bennett signs for only 5 years.

Any deal from the Flames would have to involve Pareakh

I would not go after Dahlin. Priority needs to be adding skill up front. That's where any trade capital and cap needs to be applied.
I'm a big fan of taking a run at Marner. He checks all the boxes, except not being a centre. Play driver, tremendous skill, with a two-way game.
Yes please.

I think from a buffalo perspective, that conversation starts and ends with Zayne.

If I'm the Sabres I start with Wolf.
I wouldn't move Wolf though from the flames perspective.
Although it would hurt, I would move Parehk for Dahlin, depending on the rest of the package.

They have their own Wolf, at least they think they do, with Devon Levi.
Why would you move Parehk for Dahlin given relative ages and $$$?

Dahlin is one of the top 5 most valuable NHL defencemen in the NHL given is age, production, size and everything else. Maybe even #3.
Say your building an NHL team for now and going forward.
The top Dmen to take would probably be:
1. Makar
2. Hughes
3. Dahlin
He's only 24 and already a top 10 dman in the league.
Parehk is good and what he is doing is amazing, and is as close to a sure thing as you can get, but he isn't a star in the NHL yet. Dahlin is already, and he's only 24.

I think if Dahlin played in another market and had more visibility and media presence he'd be right there with Hughes and Makar for sure.
