Huberdeau isn't playing on either line 1 or 2 right now, in my opinion. That is probably the third best line the team has at the moment. As more talented players come into the lineup, I suspect that he's a permanent fixture on line 3 and PP2 or until a team pays an acceptable price for his contract and retention. At this point, I see that contract as untradeable.

If Cooley can get a decent return I wouldnt mind running with Wolf Vladar. Basically found money in Cooley, as much as I like him

Agreed.
Not only that but I think Flames fans should prepare themselves for the day that they have a $10.5M third or fourth liner. It’s coming.
Frankly, I think the Huberdeau contract is manageable. Specifically for the next 3-4 years. Once guys like Gridin, Honzek, Basha, and others get through their ELC’s, it’s going to be manageable.
Maybe they can buy him out in four years, maybe he ends up on Ronda’s island, maybe he retires, maybe another team is willing to take him on with one or two years left and retention, maybe there’s an expansion draft, maybe there’s compliance buyouts the next time the CBA comes up. Some of these are unlikely, but I suspect that at some point over the next 5-6 years, there’s going to be an off ramp in there somewhere.
As it stands right now, I don’t think it’s a major issue. Mild issue? Definitely. But until some of these younger players start demanding big contracts, the Flames can eat a few years of this and likely will have to.

Cooley should be splitting starts with Wolf and send Vladar down to play some steady minutes.

I don't think that Eastern teams hate Huberdeau as much as Calgarypuck fans hate Huberdeau.

Huberdeau is basically a part owner of the franchise at this point.
I'm worried he'll become a coach-killer when the time comes to ramp this thing up and turn it into a playoff team/contender. Similar to what Darryl was trying to do.
His giveaway up the middle that lead to a goal the other night should have had him benched. But he was right back out there next shift. That has to be hard for a young player to see.

I think Huberdeau is tradable to the right team at 3MM retained but don’t expect any value. I’m fine with retaining 3MM over the next 7.

That’s not happening.
Trade Vladar and call Cooley up? That definitely could happen but it might not until the deadline.

You’re fine with it?
That’s good. You should write Murray a letter.

Vladar and Wolf are the tandem, till a trade says otherwise. No ones sending Vladar to the ahl, makes zero sense. Especially how he's been playing, and is the most veteran of the 3.

His contract is buyout proof, as it saves few dollars and cap. That ship never left port.
He won't retire with millions still owed.
Can you really see an expansion team taking him LOL.

Yeah, Murray would never do that.
Ans no one is paying Huberdeau over $50M to play for them.

But he's getting PP1 time, which is more important.
The first 3 lines tend to play similar amounts, other than PP and PK time.

Yeah the top 3 lines are used pretty equally:
5v5 ATOI:
Zary: 14:07
Kadri: 13:53
Backlund: 13:51
Coleman: 13:19
Sharangovich: 13:07
Huberdeau: 12:25
Coronato: 12:22
Pospisil: 12:01
Kuzmenko: 12:00
Mantha: 11:49
He's already almost playing third line minutes.
But he leads the team with 3:10 of PP time per game. It's actually the most surprising part of his struggles, because even if he lost a step you think he'd be able to produce on the PP.
But it's weird because he also barely has the puck on the PP. In his time in Calgary the PP has never really ran through Huberdeau...he's out there but he rarely actually has the puck. I still think he needs to change to number 71, number 10 is cursed in Calgary.

Cooley has been so solid since the start of camp that I'd entertain calls on vladar if there is interest.
Not sure what Colorado's goalie situation is but I would imagine dan would be a 1B option that could help them.
They're not a team that needs vezina performances to win anyways.
