Eh, people are allowed to feel how they want to about Matthew. I appreciate he was honest enough to tell the org he didn't want to stay and allowed the Flames to get a big return for him. I never hated the guy. Definitely didn't see him being the player he's been for Florida so far. But he's proved a lot of people wrong, myself included. I really believe it's mostly on the organization itself as to why both him and Johnny left. And hopefully Conroy and co can change things in the org in a better direction

Hopefully this is as close as they get.
I’ll take Vegas (yuck) in a quick and uneventful final please.

The more I look back, the more bitter I am at Treliving for all this.
The Peters-Ward-Sutter domino sealed our two best players leaving in a lot of ways. Peters was Treliving guy and he wasn’t going to settle for anyone else.
Blah, here’s to a new era.

TNT was giving loads of praise for Chucky, how despite his speed, has elite skill and forces teams to play to his speed. Gretzky stated such, just like Patrick Kane would do the same for other teams to play to his tempo. They were also praising what we all knew and loved about Matthew, how in every game he drags his team into the fight. I know that’s what I liked about him whilst with the Flames, even if it was during a mid season regular season game.

He could have still previously signed long-term with the Flames and forced his way out. I get the frustration as a fan, but why assume he wouldn't want out with a longer contract?
Now maybe if Chucky was signed long-term Gaudreau would have stayed? Who knows.
|
His foot was out the door when he signed the last RFA deal he had. He was always going to force the Flames to make a decision last offseason, effectively playing one less year on the deal he signed.

Huberdeau better have a monster start next season or this fanbase will turn on him quick! My expectations he better be a PPG player next season.

I'm of the belief Peters became Treliving's guy due to the limited budget the team would allow for. They were never willing to spend on a coach until they went out and got Sutter. And that was not a Treliving decision.

I'm happy to see tkachuk and Bennett close tho. Honestly, Vegas goes through, I just want a 7 game series and I don't care who wins. I like both of them.
As for the Flames, as these two teams are tied forever now. Here's hoping we get a coach who can figure it out with the guys on the team. Lindholm wants to and signs a long term deal. Markstrom comes back to form. And Kadri learns to just play his game
To be honest, we have an amazing team ON PAPER..... Just need to figure it out to execute. Anyways...
Go good hockey go!

Thing is, he isn’t the first and won’t be the last player who does not want to play here. As a fan of the Flames or any lower tier NHL city destination, it’s expected. I don’t blame any player for doing that. It won’t stop me from cheering for the Flames and it doesn’t make me angry at a player either. I’d probably do the same as them.

He's not the one that asked for a trade. There is also a reason it was Huberdeau, Weegar, Schwindt and a 1st and not just a 1 for 1 trade.
Tkachuk was the better player, younger with more upside, and the trade reflected that.
Actions speak louder than words...especially with Tkachuk. He bolted the first chance he got and I've heard from former teammates that he says whatever makes him look good in the media.
Hell at his season end press conference he said he wanted to sign long term and then asked for a trade a couple weeks later.
It's all lip service to make himself look good.

Yeah you can be happy for Tkachuk and not crap on Huberdeau. He was blindsided by the trade and came in with his best intentions only to have his season railroaded by a coach gone wild.
If you should be upset with anyone it should be Tkachuk for being a liar.

Seems weird to bring him up like he is supposed to match Tkachuk because TKACHUK quit on the Flames like it has anything to do with Huberdeau at all.

Maybe, but winning helps, and it’s been reported that Sutter was a factor in both of them leaving.
Either way, we wasted effectively two seasons under Ward, in that core’s prime years.

Tkachuk has stepped up his game to be an elite playoff performer but the comparisons to Huberdeau are unfair.
Huberdeau's playoff stats are fine and include 10 points in a 6 game loss to the Bolts in 2021. If his Florida teams got the goaltending this Florida team has the playoff performance narrative wouldn't exist.

Not trashing talking, I really hope we see an amazing Huberdeau next year. Imagine him scoring (or assisting) 3 game winners in the WCF with the Flames on to the Stanley Cup.
I mean, I can dream and hope can't I?

I've always seen Tkachuk as a BSer. His sulking and tanking a few seasons ago with Gaudreau was it for me. Whatever it was that bothered them was on management to come to their level to nip it in the bud, but after they sulked and didn't put in any effort game after game, I knew he wasn't a franchise player. In Florida he may have found his perfect fit and great that he didn't want to be vilified and told the truth eventually but I still don't like the guy. The Tkachuk's were always about going for the highest coin and talking big. Hate guys like that.

Who cares about Huberdeau? He's been on vacation for a month already. Hopefully he's having a good time on a beach somewhere. This is a Panthers thread.
