They don't have that much space, need to re-sign Bennett and Ekblad. Unless they let him go but then they need an replacement. After next year they'll have a ton of space though when Bob comes off the books.

LeBrun confirms the Flames did show interest in Rantanen:

There was a long list of teams interested, including the Florida Panthers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vegas Golden Knights and Los Angeles Kings. The Panthers and Maple Leafs certainly pushed hard. My TSN colleague Ryan Rishaug in Edmonton revealed Saturday that the Oilers made an offer. According to league sources, Utah Hockey Club, the Calgary Flames, the Anaheim Ducks and the Seattle Kraken also showed interest, to varying degrees. Undoubtedly there were others.
All of which underlined how rare it is for a player of Rantanen’s caliber to be available, let alone twice in six weeks.

I assume every team would have tried to negotiate an extension with him before acquiring. Rishaug reported that Edm had a better deal than the 96MM offer. Does that add fuel to the McDavid will leave post current deal speculation at all? No way they could pay three guys that much dough?

If Conroy was kicking the tires on Rantanen, I would have to think that if Marner goes to free agency, he'll make a pitch to him. I guess that isn't exactly going out on a limb because a lot of teams will be, but this team has a lot of cap space and can put him in the position to be the the main guy on the team.

I'd read somewhere that Marner doesn't have interest in going to another Canadian team. Of course that's probably just a rumor and could change depending who offers what.

You can probably assume the same teams that inquired about Rantanen will be the same ones going after Marner and he doesn't cost assets.
You can probably add everyone with cap space pretty much. Chicago, San Jose, Jackets, Nashville(lol).
You will have to likely overpay him if everyone has the same cap space. 14-15M per season.

I doubt Treliving has the balls to let Marner walk. He'll just eventually end up paying Marner what he wants, which again will be too much. He's way too easy to play against in the playoffs.

I don't believe Rishaug on this one. At least not that they had a deal with Rantanen. Maybe the Oilers were planning on offering more than Dallas agreed to but Rishaug reported that the Oilers didn't have the pieces available to agree to a trade. Why would Carolina let Edmonton talk contract with Rantanen when they wouldn't let Dallas talk to Rantanen until after a deal was made?

Just swap Marner with Gaudreau.
He's done it. He'll do it again.

But that was Gaudreau wanting to leave. Seems like Marner wants nothing but to stay, it's his pyjama team.

Seems clear the Panthers probably had no picks they could trade, and Marner wouldn't waive. But somehow Edmonton was talking extension, but Carolina didn't want anything they had to offer.
At least make your lie a little more believable.

Gaudreau was willing to sign the year before and they low balled him and walked him to free agency instead.
Marner wants to stay and they offered him up in a deal and asked him to waive.
Marner is gone IMO.

We should be cheering on Marner screwing the Leafs, first it's the Leafs but second Treliving left our team in shambles and ran away to Toronto.

If the Leafs lose in the first round or even 2nd round who knows what the appetite will be for either side. The Tavares contract will be off the books so the Leafs could certainly give him the money he wants and I suspect that will happen but it could go in a totally different direction. If I know Brad Treliving, he's going to be offering Chychrun a big contract on July 1st so a lot of money will go to him. I wouldn't count out the Leafs looking at Bennett as well.

Getting Bennett could also help sell McDavid even more on Toronto. Seeing one of his old friends and childhood teammates go to their hometown team

Well, will be interesting to see how it develops. I still think Tre will bend over and pay him his eight year with big AAV. Which I think is great because he plays small in the playoffs.
Gaudreau was willing to sign earlier but when the deal didn't get done Tre messed it up and thought he could get him to stay anyway. There was thath whole American "going home" thing. I still remember Tre having a red face in the press conference after Gaudreau said he'll go UFA

Now that would be really bad, I hope the Panthers find a way to keep him just for that reason alone. Bennett is exactly what Toronto needs.
Tavares is apparently in contract talks with the Leafs so I suspect he'll stay.

Here’s my prediction
Marner walks
Tavares 1-2 years
Bennett long term in Toronto
McDavid to Toronto to play with his buddy at home
