I think they are a bad team - with some key pieces. I also think that they as a whole are playing well. That's the point of my previous post. It isn't Wolf stealing games - Wolf is one of those key pieces playing well, and not "the only reason".

90% save percentage when you have the worst defensive group in the league, and every shot is a scoring chance almost.

Not all sellers made out like bandits. Were the prices high, yeah, on some guys, but fair to say not on all of them.

Thats fair that some players didnt get moved. But Andersson is a top 2 D with a low cap hit and a low risk contract. He 28 and a RH shot. It is very doubtful he wouldn't have demanded a large return.
The argument inferred that Conroy may have been shopping Andersson but decided not to based on the return. I don't think it can be much clearer that Conroy wasn't going to trade any of his leadership core. I think it's a fair assumption that if Andersson was on the market the strong offers would have been there.

You're sure in a mood today. If this was true, surely Wolf would be tops in GSAE and EGA....wait he's 15th in GSAE and 21st in EGA, that can't be...

There is no point in talking to you...I can show you 20 metrics that show the Flames as a mid defensive team but you are stuck on the narrative

Tough to argue with iron clad statistical analysis like that.

Can't win with young players eh Mack? Hawks started a dynasty winning cup 1 when Toews was 21 and Kane was 20.

Flames are last in GF and in a playoff spot
Either we have exceptional D, goaltending or both
It’s clearly not the offense leading us

Flames have and continue to win tight games. They have lost several by wide margins. There's the goal differential.
Flames Wins by 3 goals = 9
Flames Wins by 4 goals = 0
Flames Wins by 5+ goals = 0
Flames Losses by 3 goals = 8
Flames Losses by 4 goals = 3
Flames Losses by 5 goals = 2

The Flames have a goal differential of -19. They are 32nd in goals per game and 13th in goals against per game. So, they are the worst offensively and solidly in the top 1/2 of the league defensively. I think the defensive success is due much more to Wolf than Vladar. Wolf is 5th in 5v5 goals saved above expected at 5 v 5, Vladar 29th. Wolf is 15th in all situations goals saved above expected, Vladar 61st. But I think those statistics tell you the Flames’ team strength. At 5 v 5, they play a very strong defensive structure that allows their goalies to have a much greater amount of success than in less structured parts of the game.

A Wolf-less Flames team is solidly in the bottom 5 this season.
Pretty simple.

I think Huska and the coaching staff recognized they had young/inexperienced goalies and a very weak blue line, and they decided to play a style that would limit offence but allow their goalies and defencemen to succeed by playing low event hockey at 5 v 5. I think that strategic choice also deserves credit for the Flames’ surprising success this season.

It's the only style Huska knows. It has nothing to do with the roster, it's how he has coached every team he has ever coached. When this team gets more offensive talent the only way they can take a step forward is to show him the door.
