I'd have to agree to a certain extent, but I think what that poster meant by "slow" was in relation to the first season where Rick went, in one episode, from near dead in a hospital to driving on his way to Atlanta and everything that happened in between.
However, I'm glad they slowed this season down a bit for character development and more complex points of conflict. The quality of this show is unreal.

Yup thats exactly it, so if Herschel has a heart attack and croaks he becomes a walker.
Still mixed about the ending. But i guess it's network tv and you can't have Shane die the way he does in the comic. I kinda wished they didn't show Shane releasing and killing Randall, and then having Glenn and Darryl piece together the clues to figure out it was Shane who let him go!
Also a spoiler on how the infections started

It's obviously a zombie flash mob.

Perhaps the longer the dormant version exists within the host, the faster it takes over once the host dies...
|
In the early episodes this season, there were several dead non-walkers in the cars on the highway.
I still think that the burning of walker bodies may have something to due with the transition from recently dead human to walker. In the eposide with the two police officers or security guards that had become walkers without any apparent bites, there was also a pile of previously burnt bodies nearby that Rick stumbled upon. And Shane (along with Andrea and T-Dog) burned the bodies of the walkers from the barn.
Perhaps burning walker bodies releases an altered state of the virus that, once inhaled, infects the living in a different manner than a classic zombie bite.

It was when Carl shot Shane. The walkers were all milling about in the woods and the one she-zombie does a double take and starts walking towards the gun shot noise.
The zombie flashes, I thought, were more of what was happening inside Shane's brain after he was knifed.

I thought that was what was happening right after he died and when he was coming back to the living dead.
Lost in all of this was the great zombie killing earlier in the episode. Pitchfork through the jaw into the brain.

Agree on the zombie flashes - I think it just shows the remotivation of the "dead" brain tissue. Jim had similar flashes when he was lying feverish in Dale's RV after being bitten in season 1.
The gunshot thing is the only logical explanation for calling in the zombie horde, but it kind of bugs me. During the first half of the season the group had a hard time discerning which direction sounds were coming from, (the church bells when they were looking for Sofia) yet now the zombies are able to zero in on a two gunshots. Not to mention the group has been blasting away doing firearms training and that didn't attract any zombies, but all of a sudden there are dozens of them in the woods less than half a mile away.
Regardless, the episode was fantastic and the whole show so far has been amazing. Next weeks finale will be awesome - I only wish I didn't have to wait until October to see more!

I think it was just a case of a zombie herd moving nearby by chance when the gun was fired. They've shown repeatedly that some of the zombies move in aimless packs.

This was a great episode, I absolutely loved the story telling and lead up going on over the last few episodes.
Think back two or three episodes and the lone walking in the field, so clear now that it was foreshadowing of Shane. It was great how they "slowly" introduced the idea in the last half of last nights episode after he offs Randal and smacks his face into the tree. He was all bloody so now his face looked like a walker. The way he was stumbling through the bush with Rick, his breathing and body motions. Then into the open field, with the moon and fog (what a cool looking scene) Shane then dies and rises again as the lone walker in the field.
All of that combined lead up to the most dramatic conflict resolution the series has had to date.
I applaud the screenplay and writers for the way it was all presented.
Now onto the Zombie horde, I think that they just happened to be near the farm at the time, think back to the highway scene where they were just cruising along like a band of teenagers off to Chinook mall, no real aim or mission, just going.
I think that this was a similar case, that horde happened to be near enough to hear the gunshot(s) Carl and Shane's gun, and are now in main character eating mode.
EDIT: beaten by Kybosh on this view point
I think the season actually ended with this episode and the zombie attack in the "season finale" is just set up for next year. They will offload probably a lot of characters. I will predict the episode to end in cliffhanger fashion with Lori in a precarious situation which we will have to wait until October to find out her fate. The season opener will quickly finish the cliffhanger and the remaining few will flee the overtaken farm.
I do not think that we will find out what Ricks knows about the infections (via Shane rising and the CDC whisper) until the start of season 3, but IMO it has to do with the way the infection in spread, i.e. DON'T BURN THE BODIES! (In fact was Rick around when the bodies were burned at the farm?)
I do hope that they pay homage to the "zombie genre" and have a few scenes of everybody inside the farm house surrounded by Z's trying to get in.
And lastly I hope that at least one Zombie utters "Brains" at some point.

Based on the books, you're probably right. The series though seems to be going in its own direction so you never know.

@ Fotze - I am not so sure, IF Glenn Daryl and Rick make it through this next attack it will surely be talked about during the next "downtime". I just dont see much insight into their world being revealed the next episode. I just get a feeling that it will be a very chaotic/action intense hour to go out of the season with a bang.

From what I can guess from the previews for next week I have a feeling the group will be split.
Rick, Carl, Lori, Darryl, Glen and Maggie at the last minute.
Carol, Andrea, Herschel and the rest of the farm crew. Not sure where T-Dog ends up.
Rick's group bails on the farm as it is being over run, Herschel says he is staying to defend it and people stay with him to die.
Season ends with Rick's group just making it out before it's too late.

I totally laughed during The Talking Dead when they showed the folks who do the zombie sound effects. Them being "in character" and stumbling around the sound studio.

Anyone else feel Andrea is annoying as hell? Trying to stay at the CDC to kill herself then bails alst minute, complains about not having a gun, almost kills Darryl, wanders off while Hershel's daughter tries to kill herself when she's suppose to look out for her... etc.

Ever since that horrible acted scene with her sister in the boat in season 1, I've found it very hard to like Andrea.
I'm coming around though, less talky more cold hearted killing from her is needed.

Some faces just bother me and the actress that plays Andrea has one. Even when she tries to smile she has this on the verge of tears/sun in her eyes look on her face.
